What do you guys things my chances are at Rice, NYU, Northwestern, Notre Dame

higher sat. my rice interviewer said that rice has a cutoff for sat and it is around 1400. try to get that a little higher.

nyu maybe
northwestern - reach
notre dame - maybe
rice - reach

how strong are my chances? at rice, n'western mainly

id say u have a chance at all of them, just highlight something about urself that makes ua person over a stat

Um. you were varsity basketball since your sophmore year? That doesn't happen very often. Going up 13 spots in one semester is very unlikely, I think you are shooting too high. However, your SATS aren't too bad what is the breakdown? Hopefully your sat writing was the worst one, also your sat 2's are =. Anyways yeah um gl with that. Have any proof of the ymca board? Id like to see that

anyways... what do yall think my chances are at rice?

your chances @ rice are pretty slim. unless you make ur essays really kick ass. you show no true interest--you havent done anything for 4 years..except basketball..maybe?

Rice is mad hard to get in....Im applying there just for the heck of it...I really wanna go there but i dont expect to get in. My friend got into Wash U w. a full ride but wait-listed at Rice 5 years ago... her stats.... 1/200 1520 ... class pres, captain of field hockey team, over 7 clubs, killer essay...yeah good luck.

rice does not have a cutoff at 1400. maybe it seems that way, but there is no actual rule.

ohhhhhhhhhhh yeah, there's no cut off.

the initial "swipe" cut-off score for each section is probably around 680, so you might want to improve your SATs...and SAT II cut-off score is probably around 650-700ish, so you might REALLY want to improve on that.

So how come you just totally ignored my questions? Proof of YMCA boards? I checked online, all the board of directors seem to be directors/CEOS of big companies unless i am mistaken (which i could very well be) and you were varsity sports since sophmore year?

Northwestern, Rice, and ND all look like a bit of a reach, as they are for everyone

NYU is definetely easier to get in, so I'd feel safe with admission there

i dont know how i can show you proof of the YMCA Board, other than the fact that I was elected by popular vote and my Head Chair is Bill Powell. And yes, Varisty basketball since sophomore year.

o, btw, my board is of Greater Houston, whose head director is the guy from Continental Airlines, fyi

you won't get into northwestern

wow, people are jerks.
Look at the NW forum--a good deal of applicants got in (early at least) who had much lower stats than yours.

I definitely think you have at least a decent shot at all of them, especially Notre Dame (are you Catholic?) and NYU. I don't know much about Rice, but if NW's early applicants are any indicator, you have a pretty decent chance there, too.
Good luck!

thanks vanilla

btw vanilla, could you post a link where you found their stats?

You have a "chance". Nobody can give you an exact probability. As long as it's not "zero", what difference does it make? If you like the schools, just go ahead and take a chance. Don't worry about what others say.

In the ED round, quite a few CC members with stats comparable to yours got into Northwestern this year. However, RD round is harder. Last year, the average (ED+RD) SAT of the enrolled freshmen was 1403.

Stats show at least a few people who got in with SATs in the 1900 range. Don't forget, though, that's with early decision to NW.
