I know this is late, but I'm having a lot of trouble with the "Prompt: The quality of Rice's academic life and the Residential College System is heavily influenced by the unique life experiences and cultural traditions each student brings. What perspective do you feel that you will contribute to life at Rice?"

Is it ok to write envisioning myself at Rice? Most examples I have read are of their cultural upbringing/homeschooledness/etc...

I was thinking of "As I walk across the library steps from the One-on-One Mentoring program to Chinese Cultural Club, I breathe in the muggy air of Houston..."

Hi, it’s good to see that I’m not the only one who’s starting application at the last minute, haha.

Anyways, I’d say that it’s okay to write about envisioning yourself at Rice AS LONG AS YOU WRITE ABOUT WHAT YOU’D BE CONTRIBUTING. For example, you can write about how you’d be participating in the Chinese cultural club and what you’d be contributing, what role you’d be taking up etc. I’m writing this essay right now too, and I’m writing about how as a Korean student from Alaska I’d be bringing in unique Alaska perspectives

I hate to say it, but this is one of those essays that has to be inspired. You’ll know it’s the right response when you figure it out. Unfortunately, there really is no “correct” way to write the essay, but rest assured it should expose what unique characteristics you as an individual possess and describe (either implicitly or explicitly) why those will be an enhancement to the Rice community.
