Essay Topic=BAD

Why does Rice have to have such a difficult essay topic? If you don't have some super-unique experience or a different culture, there's very little to say. Is anyone else this frustrated?

i would be if i hadnt lived on a farm in the middle of a neighborhood =)

Yeah, I definitely agree with that. I'm just writing that although I'm a white boy with no strongly defined culture, I love science, and can add that perspective to the general community at Rice. I dunno, it's my best shot.

what school and major ru gunna apply for?

so bsbllallstr88....what perspective will you be bringing to rice by writing on your topic? im just curious. and also, a good essay doesnt have to have the "perspective" clearly stated right? you can just describe an experience with the perspective implied?

fellow applicant drowning in frustration...and essay topics like that usually don't frustrate me...ugh!

im going to write about what it has been like to live on a farm in a middle class neighborhood/community... dealing specifically with isolation from everybody else... how i've coped with it.... ummm and probably a big paragraph on the actual setting to open it up .. not exactly sure yet. I think its quite unique... and no i dont think it has to be clearly stated, just understood.

The Rice essay shared a prompt with my early action school, so all is well ;)

do you think it'll matter if our essay sort of doesn't follow the prompt a little? i mean, it really is kind of a lame topic. will they automatically like throw out our application if our essay isn't EXACTLY what they want? i have lots of "little" experiences that define who i am, but no big Life Changing Experience That Redefines The Meaning of Mankind.

well....the prompt does say "use a personal experience to illustrate this." can you maybe turn one of your little experiences into an entire essay? just remember, the best essays are those that extract the extraordinary out of the ordinary
