The Rice Thresher announced that Rice received a total of 29,509 applications for the Class of 2025, breaking the previous record of 27,087 set in 2019.
But, it also announced that it’s planning to increase enrollement by 800 students by 2025, which might indicate more students will be accepted this year (question mark):
Any thoughts on this?
I’ve read other top schools had so many kids defer last year that it will actually take spots for next year.
Given test optional most top schools have seen an application boom.
Yeah, they are probably using this opportunity to kill three birds with one stone. That is 1- accommodate two freshmen classes (gap year students being freshmen) at once, 2- tap into the extra applications without damaging yield and 3- get closer to the the typical enrollment of its medium size peers (roughly 5000 to 7000 undergraduates). My guess would be that 3 was likely a long term plan that got moved forward given this unusual opportunity…
