Rice regular decision acceptances thread!

Rice is my top choice right now… what are the chances of being admitted from the waitlist?

Tulane is a great school but it has a big party school reputation. Rice is definitely more respected, and I think it would be a better choice overall if you can afford the difference.

@trebleclef: I would call the admissions office and ask. Also, if you have any new information to share (new awards, better transcript, etc.) I would suggest sending that to Rice (double check to see if they welcome additional information).

@snoopyiscool: If Northwestern offered more need-based aid than Rice, you can definitely try appealing it. Sometimes, schools will match financial aid packages from other schools. Write a letter or send an email to Student Financial Services explaining your situation.

@slik nik: I actually haven’t gotten NU’s fin aid package yet, but I do know I’m getting at least something from them. And if I don’t, I did get a nice package from Vandy I intend on using as leverage at NU. Rice fell of my radar a few months ago, anyway, and I probably won’t end up there, so it’s quite alright.

Still, congrats to everyone else, and if you didn’t get in, these things tend to work themselves out.

Accepted! But, fortunately for those on the waitlist, I can almost say certainly I won’t be attending  as I got into Stanford.
Congratulations everyone! Best of luck to Rice’s Class of 2014!
Those who weren’t admitted, don’t lose hope! You’ll have a great place to attend college. It was evidence of your motivation that you applied to Rice.

Waitlisted. Rice was not on the top of my list (I will most likely be attending WUSTL, assuming no more acceptances over the next week), but I can honestly say I’m shocked by that. 35 ACT, 2240 SAT, great ECs…but no demonstrated interest. I’m wondering if that played a part…

waitlisted too…how do i increase my chances of getting in?? i really really really want to go there!

WUSTL would be more likely than Rice to waitlist due to lack of demonstrated interest.

rejected.

the letter had an interesting aspect to it. unlike most rejection letters (because i’ve gotten a few) it doesn’t say that the decisions are final. does this mean that there’s a way to appeal?

Accepted, but will probably end up attending another school as well. I love Rice - its programs, residential college system, location, everything - but Texas is just a little too far away:)

Funny thing is that I showed no interest in WUSTL either. I’m interested in pre-med so I think WUSTL is just a better fit for me, but I hope this waitlist at Rice isn’t an indication of what will come with Duke tomorrow…especially since my SAT scores were in the 75th percentile and my ACT score was better than the 75th percentile for Rice.

@collegehappy: I didn’t demonstrate much “interest” for either Rice or WashU, but was accepted at Rice and waitlisted at the other. AND I’m interested in pre-med. College admission is just so unpredictable.

SaintSaens: I think Rice would actually be more capable to gauge “demonstrated interest” than WUSTL. Rice asked for all those extra essays, with the “why here?”, “where else did you apply?” and the “what would you contribute here?”.

Thanks xrCalico. I actually just sent you a PM about that. lol This is my first non-acceptance RD so I guess it’s a difficult pill to swallow. You are very right about the unpredictability though. I guess I’ll just keep my fingers crossed ofr the next few days!

Accepted with 25K scholarship…yahoo!

Accepted^^ happy happy cuz it’s my second acceptance letter among the seven schools that I’ve heard from so far.

What I meant was that it seems like WUSTL really likes to waitlist a large amount of qualified applicants and is accused of yield protection (aka Tufts’ syndrome) fare more often than Rice.

Holy crap. Rice offered to pay almost all my tuition…

=)

What…

I was waitlisted…

I’m a bit confused. I interviewed and my interviewer flat out told me that in his 20 years of doing Rice interviews, he had “never seen a student quite as spectacular as me”. He flat out told me I would be granted admission to Rice, and left me by saying that he “just hopes I’ll pick Rice over an Ivy to attend.”

I’m ranked in top 1% of a very competitive class of 500. Test scores were right in the range (if not well above), and I have won awards such as the Coca-Cola Scholarship…
I’m seriously astonished…
