If Ohcomely is correct and transfer notices go out tomorrow, Good Luck to all hopefulls. Rice is a wonderful college and living here is Houston as a transplanted Northeasterner I can tell you it's not bad here in the winter. Unless of course you love the cold, dreary winters of the east.

I applied as well, i go to Austin Community College where I am Secretary of the Student Government Association, Treasurer of the History Society and have received one award and am nominated for another. I have a 3.75 GPA so I'm not feeling very optimistic about my chances. I guess after this summer my GPA will be around a 3.9 so if I get rejected I will just apply again later. My biggest problem is my 1.7 gpa from Tomball Community College back in 2001. Anyone else have similar stats and heard anything back yet? I will post any updates

Anyone heard from Rice today as it is getting late. Maybe Ohcomely was just getting excited and pulling our legs. Anyway good luck to all hopefuls.

i just called in and she said "the official notification date is May 15"

....not so sure if they are mailing out decisions today

when i called they said that decisions letters will be mailed out friday (today). hopefully we'll all find out soon! gl

I got in!!

Decisions are up! Check your status page.

I got in too!! YEA!

i got waitlisted :(

what should I do?!?

Hey, would you guys mind posting your stats? I am strongly thinking about transferring Rice next year and was wondering if it is a plausable choice.

I got in too! YES!

Could you guys post your stats please? I REALLY want to go to Rice and will apply next year!

ACCEPTED STUDENTS:

You really should post your stats on here for those planning on applying next year as it's very helpful.

I got into Rice as a junior transfer. found out yesterday. while i am thrilled, it is not my top choice, and they want a deposit by may 11, before i will have heard from other schools. Is there any way to find out from other schools without losing my spot at rice?

did you guys get any financial aid?

naw, i did not

Me neither. I heard that Rice sends financial aid package separate from admission package... I wonder that's the reason?

If we're comfortable posting our stats on CC, we've probably already posted them on a chances or applicant's thread. Do a simple "posts by" search. If a Rice Accepted Transfer student is not comfortable posting his/her stats you should respect that!

OMG! I'm in too!!!
Quick stats:
Int'l applicant for chemE
SAT: 2020 (not my strongest)
TOEFL 118/120
SAT II: 2100 or so
Rank 1/40 with a 93 average in high school (from grade 8 to 12, dunno how i managed to actually get the same average and rank EVERY year)
top 5% in university with an average of 92
Great rec. + great essay
ok EC's

Overall, i think my recommendations and essays helped a lot in the decision... Hope this helps people who are interested in applying. Best of luck guys...

No one has expressed discomfort towards posting their stats, but of course if someone has a problem with that, so be it. It is merely helpful for all of these prospective transfers to be able to get a quick rundown of the types of applicants being accepted by Rice.

Well, my stats are going to give all transfers for next year hope:
I'm a Sophmore transfer.
HS GPA: 3.7 unweighted
SAT: 1920
College GPA: 4.0 (3rd tier university in texas. actually funny story. when i was ordering transcripts online through the school, they offered an option where they would send the transcripts out to the schools you were applying to right away, all you had to do was look up the school and they had the address on file. i think i may have been one of the first people to actually apply to rice from my school, because they didn't have it in the database, but they did have syracuse, unc and bu.)

I know my stats didn't get me in, so I really think the other stuff I sent was exceptional. Everyone says they had awesome essays, but I genuinely believe that my essay may have put me over the top. It was pretty lighthearted for the most part (If you want to read it I'll PM you I guess). I also have my own weekly opinion column for the schools newspaper. I sent in a couple of my columns, I'm not sure if they read them, but it may have had some effect. I didn't get an interview, but I think I heard that they do offer them so I would recommend looking into that if you're applying next year. I took five courses my first semester of college, and I got recommendations from three of my professors. They require only two but I think getting three helped me out. Basically I recommend that you put a lot of work and thought into your application, because apparently it actually does sway the committee. Congrats to all of the other transfers.
