Hi!
I was wondering about Rice’s stance on granting merit scholarships to ED applicants. I’ve seen all of the threads stating that most schools do not grant merit aid to ED applicants because they are have already agreed to come, but I want to know about Rice specifically, as I am applying ED and hope to earn a merit scholarship. Has anyone applied ED and been awarded a scholarship? Thanks!
Contrary to popular belief, it is possible. My daughter is currently there on two scholarships from an ED application a few years ago. Keep in mind that only 13% of the students are awarded merit scholarships of any amount. The competition is tough. Compare yourself to the scores and activities list in the link before you apply. https://futureowls.rice.edu/futureowls/Freshman_Profile.asp
To add onto the solid response from @ScienceGirlMom, you should NOT apply to ANY school ED if you aren’t prepared to pay full price (minus demonstrated need according to the FAFSA for schools that promise to cover it). I don’t mean to assert that’s your mindset, but it’s worth saying for other people who might see this.
