Rice University ED Class of 2020 ****OFFICIAL THREAD*******

Are you guys dead serious? I asked my friend to go to the Office today and she said all they said was “by the 15th”… anyways, I hope it comes soon

I actually found out whether I was accepted on December 1st, because I applied through QuestBridge.

**Decision: Accepted/b

Objective:
SAT I (Comp, Essay, CR, M, CW): 2200, 7, 720, 770, 710
ACT First Time: 35, 7, 35, 36, 34, 36
ACT Second Time: 35, 28 (new essay grading system), 36, 36, 35, 34
SAT II (Type, Score): Chemistry, 800; Math II, 800
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4.0
Rank: 1/203
AP: Biology (4), European History (4), Chemistry (5), Calculus AB (5), US History (5), Language and Composition (5)
IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A
Senior Year Course Load: Accounting 1, AP Physics, Business Law, Students as Mentors, Anatomy & Physiology, Advanced Strategies of Rhetoric and Research (Dual Enrollment), College Literature (Dual Enrollment), Web Design, Forensic Science, Teacher Aide [My course load was light because I’m also teaching myself 3 AP courses this year, since my school doesn’t offer them]
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): AP Scholar with Distinction, Missouri Scholars Academy, Missouri Boys State, National Merit Semifinalist, QuestBridge Finalist

Subjective:
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Math Club (President), Science Club (Treasurer), Authors Club, Gay Straight Alliance, National Honor Society
Job/Work Experience: None
Volunteer/Community service: A few hours of community service through NHS every week. About 4 hours of math mentoring a week. I take out my school’s recycle bins every week, and run fundraisers through GSA for minorities in need. I also supervise my severely autistic younger sibling for at least 30 hours a week if that counts here.
Summer Activities: Missouri Scholars Academy before my junior year. Missouri Boys State before my senior year. Working on a novel as well.
Essays: 9.5/10
Teacher Recommendations: 10/10 from both my Physics and my AP Language teacher, I’d guess. The former has had me every year and we’re very similar to each other. The latter only taught me junior year, but she always used my essays as examples for other classes and even emailed the principal one of my essays once.
Counselor Rec: 8/10. I think I’m her favorite student at our high school but I have a feeling she mostly copied my resume.
Additional Rec: N/A
Interview: N/A

Other:
Country: US
School Type: Public, average size
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Gender: Male (though I identify as genderless, and I think I had mentioned that in either the QuestBridge application or Rice supplement)
Income Bracket: Custodial parent makes around 40k annually. Non-custodial parent makes around 50k.
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Divorce, severely autistic younger brother, depression and anxiety (I said I had overcome them in one of my essays)

Reflection:
•Strengths: Grades and test scores, definitely. Essays were well-written as well.
•Weaknesses: Low essay scores on SAT and ACT (though my high AP Language and Composition score probably made up for it)
•Why you think you were accepted: Again, the extremely high test scores, class rank, GPA, etc. helped, and I’m usually a very good essay writer (when there isn’t a short time limit, anyways).
•Where else you are applying or have already applied: I had applied to several prestigious universities and a few safe schools, but I’ve withdrawn all other applications now that I’ve been accepted to Rice.

General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: I’m definitely surprised I was accepted. The acceptance rate at Rice is already low, but getting accepted through QuestBridge with a full scholarship is much more difficult. Thank goodness my college admissions and financial aid processes are both over with already!

@SylphOfSpace

Congrats!

@SylphOfSpace Congratulations!!
I hope you guys are right about the decisions being posted today. My stomach flip flops every time I think about it.

does not look like it’s today…

Let’s give it another hour, since it’s 4 central time…

@salexpo Why do you say that?

I heard mostly likely it will come out on mon/tues

Would rice really call and tell a random counselor and tell them when decisions are coming out? Seems unlikely, but i’m hoping to God that they come out today…

I’m really hoping they come out today, because I need to yeet the ACT tomorrow.

@lncompl99 I just thought since they had a new scholarship out JUST for ED this year they might be wanting to encourage more applicants and higher ED acceptance right that other top tier colleges have but that is just my observation,

@set2586 What school does your daughter go to? Are the counselors really close to the Rice admissions officers?

Has a

For whenever they do come out, does anyone know if college admissions decisions (or specifically Rice’s i guess) come out all at once or do they slowly update each persons portal?

My daughers is up! She got in  What a relief!

Just got off the phone, admissions officer told me they all get released at once, but said that there wasn’t an official date and time it would get released

Decisions are out! Let’s Go!!

Are they out?

so far @set2586 posted this morning that decisions would be out at 4 CST. Now she posts that her daughter got in. But everyone else is silent? Is this bogus or real?

hmmmmm… I was thinking it might not be real too.
