Rice's prompt is:
The quality of Rice's academic life and the Residential College System are heavily influenced by the unique life experiences and cultural traditions each student brings. What perspective do you feel that you will contribute to life at Rice?

I have an essay that I think might work for this prompt, but I'm not sure. It's something I wrote for the HYP supplements. I relate a unique experience I had and what I gained from it, but it doesn't explicitly answer the question asked in Rice's prompt. Also, the topic is about actual rice...I don't know how Rice adcoms will see that.

Anyone willing to take a look to see if it fits the prompt?

Look, if you want to half-ass it, then you probably don’t want to go to Rice in the first place… and you probably won’t get in either. Better hope HYP take you!

Sure, pm it over. I probably won’t have time to give you any really substantive advice though.

I did something similar. My essay wasn’t all about Rice–rather, I focused on showing them my unique perspective. It was about me more than the school, which I thought was what they were going for.

haha thanks for the feedback guys. I ended just submitting it with an extra paragraph tying it to Rice

blankusername- that’s exactly what I did. I described a unique experience I had, how it changed my perspective on life for the better, and added a paragraph on how it would benefit the Rice community. This essay, in my opinion, should be moreso about the applicant.

And I ended up using several versions of my Rice supplement essay for scholarship essays, so don’t feel bad about reusing here. If it’s your work, do what you’d like with it.

Last year, I wrote my Rice supplement about a unique cooking experience I had and how it changed my perspectives. I wasn’t cooking Rice, but it was an interesting essay. I later tweaked it for other things, successfully. In heinsight, I wish I had pulled everything back to what I liked about the school, but I did not have the same infatuation that I have now at that point.
