Hello! I’m planning to apply to Rice soon.
Recently, I’ve come across a couple of posts that state that Rice has a terrible career counselling service and doesn’t really focus on jobs as much as education. I absolutely love everything about Rice but this is quite worrying for me since I’m an international applicant and finding a job after my undergrad degree will be a priority for me. Will going to Rice absolutely hinder my chances at finding a job there? Is it really that bad?
As alumni was it very difficult for you to find a job or was it a natural transition or something? I know that it’ll vary from domestic to international but anything can be helpful. If you happen to know any international alumni, please tell me about their experience if possible as well.
Thank you in advance!
What you heard is not correct, Rice has a normally functioning career counseling service.

Are you international looking to go back after graduation? Or hoping to stay here? The immigration process (lpt, opt, green card) has become much more complicated (or at least time consuming) in the last few years-- there’s a limit to what Rice or any other university can do if employers are not willing to jump through the hoops required to hire a foreign national.
What’s your plan? And fyi- it is much easier to get a green card if you have an advanced degree vs. a bachelor’s in the US.
Rice’s career services is great- but may not be helpful for you given the green card issue…

No, not at all. I’m looking at staying back.
Yeah, of course, the visa and green card issues will be there but I was mainly referring to just finding an actual job in the first place. I read that Rice doesn’t help students in finding jobs at all which was quite frightening.
