Totally right. Colleges are like first boy/girlfriends. Stings when rejected, but you will live. Rice, T20, UC schools, all sweet crushes that might turn into something, but none of them are Endless Love, burn down the house worthy. None.
P.S. - I, too, was smitten with Syracuse. Cutest mascot, pretty setting, Dinosaur BBQ (LOL!).
Rumors and hearsay. I’ve heard people insist Rice will send out an email 5 days prior as a warning shot. Others say 3 days. While others say no heads-up email.
Rice on the other hand says, “Admission decisions will be released by April 1.”
If I’m betting, I’ll split it in the middle and say Monday.
What a great comparison! You guys crack me up. Love reading these forums to relieve (increase?) the stress of waiting.
At this point, I just want to find out so we can go on with our lives.
BTW, our “Syracuse” was a UC as I am an alumnus and (unfortunately) talked it up around my D21 because I loved it so much. TIMES HAVE CHANGED. D21 rejected. Now realizing that “first boyfriend” was not really what he seemed.
I hear you. Rice is a great school and I think it would be a really good fit for my son, but I do not believe in the concept of the “perfect” school. I think he would be just fine attending any of his selected colleges. He wants to study medicine which is a long expensive road, I have a daughter who is a rising college sophomore and he has a sibling in high school, so financials have to be considered. He was warned from the start of his selection process not to fixate and I am hoping he hasn’t. I reserved my veto right. Right now I just want to get to the end of this long process and see him start his college journey. It’s fun to wait with others
Emory, William & Mary, Miami (was deferred EA). Got into everywhere else - too many - but Pitt, Maryland, Florid State, South Carolina (Honors), Charleston (Honors) - her favorite, Miami Ohio, Washington & Lee, UGA…and more. Only rejection so far is UNC.
Mine applied to only 5 - which I’m finding here is a BIG outlier ! Spent a crazy amount of time researching & doing the virtual events to narrow it down then essays were a full time job til Oct. Not even a single one in-state but do believe any of them will work out … waiting for 2 more RDs .
Our son is still waiting on Rice, and a few others - all of which are very much reach schools, so we could be down to the last few at this point but if Rice is a go, then that would probably be the leading candidate all things considered.
He applied to quite a few schools (18!) due to COVID making it hard to visit schools, if could do over would of probably did a few less but maybe some other choices as well. He’s our oldest so we have a few more kids we can apply some lessons learned to the process.
Waiting for Decision: Rice, UC Berkeley, USC, Duke, Vanderbilt, Cornell

Not Accepted / Denied: Yale, UCLA
Withdrew App before Decision: Tulane, University Washington @ St. Louis
We have similar schools for our sons.
Still waiting on Rice, Vanderbilt, Princeton, Cornell, Columbia, Wake Forest, Duke

Deferred to RA: Tulane
Waitlisted: Swarthmore
If i could pick a school for my son, it would be Rice. Loved it there when we visited. Everything about it.
It’s fascinating to see all the schools. Many have applied to many impressive ones. And then you see a Nebraska and Utah - you don’t see them too often - but why not? All these state flagships are great.
Even if you get into Rice - Notre Dame, Villanova…hmmmm how does one choose?
Bucknell, UNC Chapel Hill.
You are all heavy hitters regardless of what Rice says. Congrats to you.
Coast Guard Academy - I gotta think that’s free. And you become a national hero!!!
That’s awesome - I’m sure not easy to get in. Wonderful opportunities abound regardless.
I know a lot of kids turn down schools like Rice or Northwestern and end up at the state flagship. In that case, it’s all about the $$$.
Like the covid shot i panicked about when i got it today, it will all be over soon.
