do you have to submit FA to get full ride?
Son accepted! Feels nice in a sea of waitlists and rejections!
(meaning my sonās personal streak of waitlists and rejections!)
Did you get a likely?
I understand the confusion. I love Tulane. I love itās New Orleans location - especially the nearby Garden District. Honors Program makes it that much better.
If it were my son, Iād advise him to take the offer at Rice. Itās a special place. Itās not just the academics which are great. (BTW, they just added Business to their undergrad offerings. They already had a graduate Business School.) Itās the culture that builds a true community of learners. They have residential colleges just like Harvard & Yale. They are known for not being politically contentious in either direction. The university leadership handled COVID superbly and was recognized for their excellence in management by The NY Times. It has a beautiful campus with both the theater district and the museum district nearby. Itās undergraduate is only 4000 - smaller than any of the Ivies - providing the intimacy of a smaller college. At the same time it provides the resources, breadth of programs, and research of a larger university.
Your son has 2 great choices, a wealth of riches! Congratulations.
Daughter admitted!
Waitlisted
yes sad about rice tho still loved it
I got a likely as well!!!
omg!!! yayyy congrats!!!
Colleges have many applicants (especially this year) and few spots it sometimes feels a little random. My son was accepted at Yale and Rice but rejected at MIT and waitlisted at Vanderbilt. Good luck with your list as there are many great schools out there.
My son will probably end up at UT Austin, Howard, or Austin College. He may try for a transfer.
Thank you for this! Love the fact that politics isnāt seeping into Rice. Just an FYI, we are a Jewish family. We know there is a large Jewish constituency at Tulane but not if our son would fit in at Rice. I appreciate your honesty either way
Likely UCLA. Possibly Oberlin where he got merit money to make the price comparable to in-state tuition at a UC. Boston College is just way too expensive ($81K per year!), and honestly Iām sort of hoping he doesnāt get off the waitlists at places like Georgetown, Vanderbilt, WashU, and Emory because I donāt want to have to tell him we canāt afford it. Between UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, and UCSC ā all of which we will visit next week ā Iām sure heāll find one he loves and that wonāt send us to the poor house. So the Rice rejection doesnāt sting too much, particularly since he didnāt pay attention to the whole demonstrated interest part of applying. At least for his younger sisters we now know thatās a thing! And I think weāll make sure that they apply to more schools like Oberlin that give merit aid. Wish we had done more of those types of private schools for him, but we were just learning the ropes. Happy to have ended up with at least a few good choices in a year that was CRAZY overall. He never even did get to take the SAT despite registering for 6 different test dates! All were cancelled. Just a weird cycle.
Congrats to them both! Those are all fantastic schools. Maybe my son will see them at UCLA! He was accepted to the rest of the UCs he applied to but waitlisted at Cal which is funny because we live here in Berkeley. But heās not broken up about that since heād rather go at least a little bit away. I donāt know where you live, but if need any information about Cal or Berkeley, Iād be happy to answer any questions as the campus is my backyard.
Son rejected to Rice for CS the last one he was waiting on. Congrats to everyone who was accepted.
Accepted, nice aid, almost 1000 more then Vandy.
Thank you! Yes, i couldnāt agree more with you. We applied to a bunch of target/safety schools and got really good merit scholarships (100k to 120k over 4 years). 1 twin who is pre PT got into the accelerated 6 yr accelerate Physical Therapy program at SLU and Marquette so we are struggling with cost vs prestige. Twins want to go to school together and the other twin is pre med. My gut tells me they will land at UCLA.
Son waitlisted! First WL.
University of Toronto, most likely
Accepted: UF Honors, Emory, Carnegie, Boston College, Santa Clara and UChicago
Rejected: Northwestern, G-Town
Almost 100% sure he will end up at UChicago!
