Rice University Regular Decision Class of 2025

Rice just started an undergraduate business program this year. I’m not familiar with Villanova in detail but just fyi for Rice.

So many moving parts for you that we don’t even have to consider! You can’t go wrong with those options, but UCLA together would be amazing! I’m excited to see how my son feels about it next week. Hard to beat that in state tuition, and it’s a fantastic school. There are wonderful benefits to a school like Rice that is small and a little more personalized, but I can’t complain and we really couldn’t have afforded it. Good luck as you decide!

Echoing what another poster just replied with – Rice just started its undergrad business program. We as parents got emails about it just a month ago. I think my son (who was just rejected) did too. I’d go back through your emails but also I’m sure there is info on the website. Congrats on her having two great choices!

At 5pm S21 gets rejected by Rice, and at 6:20pm I get a marketing email from Rice for S23. Rice, we don’t hold a grudge, but it’s just too soon!

UCSD - living in La Jolla had a great school - could be worse. Congrats

Nova is great for business - but Rice is elite, Nova is just strong and small. I’d go Rice - but - it’s really - Philly burbs vs. in Houston…what’s the right fit.

Any other “cheaper” choices - like S Carolina - #1 in Intl Bus.

Congratulations on the acceptance. My son got rejected at Rice, but honors at Villanova. They are very different schools. Has she seen both? I think academic rigor is tougher at Rice and personally would gravitate there. But they are also far geographically and that could be a consideration for her if she wants to come home for a weekend here and there etc. The Catholic tradition of Villanova could be a plus or minus for your daughter.

does Rice offer a scholarship for National Merit finalists?

I was wondering too. It says online that they do not.

Tulane is not in the French Quarter, but it is in New Orleans.

We visited Tulane honors preview yesterday…wow! We were impressed.
(Drove to Nashville today to visit Vanderbilt tomorrow) and will probably fly down to Houston soon…

I’d love to hear your Tulane honors thoughts after attending…

Thanks! Is that a Rice link? I am seeing a couple of other sites but it is not clear when they were updated. CC has a thread on that as well from a couple of years ago.

Tulane is just not in the same league as Rice. Compare the number of profs in the department your kid wants to go into and you’ll see the prof to student ratio difference between the two schools. Compare the quality of the average student body in both schools and Rice wins hands down. Look at where the profs got their PhDs at Tulane vs Rice and make up your mind as to which set of profs look better. Also Tulane has a 2-tiered class of professors: Research Profs versus Professors in practice. The latter just teach and have a course load of 3 classes per term. The former are the stars and just teach 1 class and do research the rest of the time. Decide if you are OK being taught by profs in practice. Frankly, and without meaning to offend anyone, Tulane is attractive ONLY for the money and the fantastic location. For an academic oriented kid, Rice beats it hands down. Lastly, look at where Tulane grads go to grad school…most end up either Tulane or LSU. Not a ringing endorsement of the student body. And look at where Rice graduates go to grad school.

I was accepted!!! I’m so surprised. I also got Berkeley and UCSD but was waitlisted at UCLA. Shows how crazy this all is and that each school is different.

Rice’s business program is more finance heavy from what I’ve read…not really something she’s interesting plus because it’s no new I’m scared it won’t be as organized as an already established program.

Rice is not on the list of 2021 NM college sponsors.

I think Rice has a strong business graduate program so hopefully that will influence the undergrad but your concerns make total sense. Expensive decisions!

There are quite a few Jewish students at Rice, and Hillel is very close to campus. My daughter has a serious boyfriend at Rice that is Jewish. He was born in Israel and moved to Long Island with his family when he was in elementary school. One of my daughter’s suite mates is Jewish. PM me if you want me to put your son in touch with either of them. Rice University - Hillel International

My son was never too interested in Stanford. Our high school hasn’t placed anyone there in 15 years. Still, we were set up for visiting last Spring Break to see if he changed his mind. Was also set on visiting Rice on that trip, but I had been there before.
