accepted SAT: 1520 GPA: 4.33 W/3.9 UW GPA
Yes, I wrote: Rice is in a nice areaā¦Tulane is a ways away from New Orleans.
Itās in the city limits - but itās like a 20 minute drive. My daughter loved the French Quarter but not Tulaneā¦i worried about getting from Tulane to the French Quarter.
We ended up not applying - although itās hard not to - they stalk you to get you to apply.
Can you share your stats?
Wow! Thatās a lot of schools you applied. Almost 25 schools?
What is your major?
I think my son will end up at UCSD CS.
UCSD CS is local and we can save a lot of money. Actually UCSD CS is ranked higher than Rice, so we are OK with this rejection. Rice values the demonstrated interest, but my son applied here at the last moment. Go figure.
Waitlisted (WL) for CS including WL for two other schools. GPA 4.4. SAT 1570. Many HS ECs and captain of a major HS sport with All American status. In local news on achievements. Externship with large corporation and paid internships with two other companies. Won a number of hackathons. Brutal and tough year. What does it take to get into good colleges these days?
Connections to Rick Singer; fake pictures, fake athletic recruitment, and a lot of money!!
Rice is elite. Thereās no one in America itās a safety for or even a target. Just depends on the level of schools you applied to. If you are WL at Rice, Iām sure you have great acceptances. Good luck.
Itās a lottery at this point. So many qualified students who are motivated, worked their asses off during high school and will continue to do so once in college. I know itās hard to not take it personally, but just know there are so few spots for so many kids.
We also have to realize when you apply to privates RD, youāre at a disadvantage. These are businesses - ED guarantees butts in seats. So we are all in a bigger applicant pile chasing even less seats.
Daughter accepted! Waiting on NYU. Got into Michigan, Texas, Virginia. Denied Northwestern, Carnegie Mellon.
Yeah, about 25 schools. I was like why not, and a lot of those application were free
Iām majoring in economics at Muir.
Nice! Interesting selections of schools. You have three schools from Minnesota. Especially Mecalester intrigues me. My second son is interested there next year. I have a family in Minnesota.
Lesson learned from this year is you should apply early. I will encourage my second son to apply ED next year.
If you are from California, it makes sense to attend UCSD. Itās cheaper, and Riceās Economics is not as strong as UCSD. #12 vs #43.
Oh, actually you might have told me that you were from Texasā¦
Only apply ED if you are sure you can afford the school. ED is a huge risk (financially)
Oh yes, you are right. My son has been talking to Macalester Track and Field coach, and he wants to apply through the Atheleteās route.
Yeah UCSD gonna be expensive but didnāt get into any good universities in Texas. Still waiting on Texas A&M, hopefully I can get off the waitlist and go there in fall.
I pmād you. Let me know if you received it:)
I sent you a PM back.
We have the opposite situation. Rejected from Rice but waitlisted at Georgetown and Michigan.
Did you apply to UT Austin?
We saw ED as a game thatās played for the universityās advantage, and we refused to play. My son wanted to see all his offers, including scholarships, before making a decision. There was no possible way we could essentially write a blank check. So he applied to his 10 schools, all EA or RD. It didnāt work out at Rice but somehow he beat the odds at U Chicago (deferred in EA, accepted in RD). If it had been a rejection at UChicago, he would have happily attended Iowa, UGA, NCSU, UofSc, TAMU, Tulsa, or Kenyon. For us the key was having a solid list of good options and not overly fixating on any one college.
Sorry, I got a bit confusedā¦did you mean you son was deferred from Penn during ED?
