Rice University Regular Decision Class of 2025

Do you guys think decisions will be out next Friday? They were released on 3/27 last year and 3/26 in 2019…

Some schools are not using it at all. Some - like UGA - made it a plan to admit 30% that are TO.

So yes, some will lose out to those with lesser scores but whose overall resume otherwise was better.

But it won’t hurt you and should help you. But again, a 1520 at Rice is fine - nothing spectacular. And yes it is spectacular - just not at that level of school.

You should be proud - it doesn’t matter what some 3rd party says (i.e. a school - or CC poster).

Florida is the one state that still requires a test score - so all Florida public schools, if you did not submit a test, you cannot get in.

Public schools, correct

Yes, not sure if any other - so U F supposedly had 12K applications that were thrown out…supposedly. Or if they got them, they were one test after the deadline.

I can’t speak on UF, but that’s just nuts. I would not want to be in admissions this year.

I believe it’s just Florida - there may be other states.

But - back to Rice - I think a 1520 will only help.

I know at some schools - they took TO to mean - we won’t look at a test at all - Arizona, Miami OH

UC schools weren’t even looking at scores. Some schools weren’t looking with regard to merit.

I get having it optional this year. And, while I understand the reason to do away with them entirely, if they get rid of SAT/ACT, they should just get rid of the essays as wealthy families can game those as well.

Yes, the UCs are trying to eliminate them permanently as there is inherent bias.

But as you point out, people will always find a way to cheat.

And btw - that includes the colleges that game the rankings - i.e. Oklahoma, Clemson, Northeastern, etc. which have all been caught…and others.

Definitely not for California school, my son SAT 1560, sitting, took it before pandemic, Math II 800, national merit finalist, all honor/APs all 4 years, except one regular for one semester. He was rejected by UCD, UCSB, UCI, UCLA, and another one, I can’t remember the name, waitlisted to UCSC, possible rejection for UCR, got in for 2nd choice for UCSD. LOL, waitlisted for Purdue where in the past, student with his profile from our high school will admitted with scholarship. It’s a fun year, need to keep chin up. Poor kids

Those rejections with those stats are a gut punch. Do you think some of that is yield protection? That is rough. Sounds like he will do great wherever he lands, though. Sure is a grit-building year for these kids (and parents).

insane!!!

What major did your son apply to? It’s very tough if is CS major.

Before we digress and start talking about CA schools-
Did we come to a reasonable conclusion, or at least a good guess, as to when Rice decisions will come out? I just received another random email today, this time about academic advising, and it’s making me wonder when we will actually hear.

I think it should be this Friday, 3/26. Last year it was 3/27 and 3/26 the year before…

I couldn’t stand it anymore, I just called the admissions office, she said it will be by April 1 but they haven’t announced a date yet. I was like, I know, that’s why I’m calling, LOL

I don’t think it’s yield protection. There are so many in the same boat in California schools and Purdue forums. It’s a crazy year. We are hoping RICE or USC will open door for him. Otherwise he will need to go ASU for they offer free tuition. It’s just too bad that he really wants to go California, because we are moving there due to job change.

We got that too but felt like it was just saying “nothing to see here!” haha :joy:
