I have recieved a half tuition scholarship to Rice University, and a full tuition and fees, room and board scholarship to UNC Chapel Hill. I am having a hard time deciding between the two. I have heard about the amazing education at Rice, and I like the campus a lot. I also like UNC, but I'm afraid that its large size will take away from personal attention. Any help would be appreciated!

Oh, I also plan to go to medical school, so any money I can save now is valuable-that is part of my consideration, as well.

i would say to go to Rice.

smaller classrooms, personal attention, better education.

if you can afford it, do it.

you won't regret taking a full ride to UNC, they treat full scholarship recipients like gold

UNC hands down

I'm way partial to UNC but that's because it's in my region of the country!

UNC for sure. I think UNC has a better campus, provides a more complete undergraduate experience, equally good academics and is $60,000 cheaper over the course of 4 years. And do not worry about personal attention. You will not require personal attention at the intro level and at the higher levels, UNC will give you similar attention to Rice.

Thanks for the input! Anybody else?

I agree with posts 4 through 7. UNC is an outstanding university, and a very impressive school in all aspects. And it appears they've just offered you a full freight scholarship. I don't know. That seems like a lot of personal attention to me, and you're not even on campus yet.

This is going to be a difficult decision.

Go to UNC.
1) Ohnoes is definitely right about the red carpet treatment.
2) There's a considerable amount of construction going on right now, but the new science facilities will be great once it's done.
3) If you're going to medical school, you need to save all the money you can. Wouldn't you rather be able to go wherever you want for med school? UNC has a great med and law school placement rate.
4) An all-around great undergrad experience.
5) Great housing, dining, and library services.
6) Very attractive campus and great weather.
7) Classes are surprisingly small except for intro classes, and intro math and English classes are capped at 30.
8) Stronger in a wider variety of majors.
9) Friendly student body and great college town.
10) Duke is only a short bus ride away, and students can register for classes at either campus (as well as having a superb interlibrary system).

Um, I can think of quite a few more reasons. Convinced yet? :p

According to U.S.News and World Report, Rice is ranked 17, UNC is ranked 27. So, if you went to Rice, you'd be paying ~$15,000 for a university ten slots higher. So, the moral is, I'd go to UNC. Haha.
