Rice

My son was accepted to Rice. No merit aid. Our EFC is $25,000. Rice requires us to complete the CSS Profile and IDOC. My questions is for parents who have completed both the FAFSA and IDOC. What is the range of the difference between both. Have any parents had experience with Rice and financial aid?

Rice’s deadline for submission of both the CSS Profile and IDOC was March 1 - have you really not submitted them yet?

The CSS Profile considers multiple factors that are not taken into account on FAFSA, and your son’s cost to attend Rice will likely be greater than your FAFSA EFC. The difference, though, depends on your family’s particular financial situation - it’s not something that any of us can predict for you. Have you run the Net Price Calculator for Rice? That should give you some idea of what your cost will be . . . unless you own your own business, in which case it will probably not be reliable.

Dodgersmom summed it up.

You missed the deadline for Rice’s financial aid applications. You need to contact THEM to find out the implications of missing the deadline.

The Profile looks more deeply into your finances. It considers things like primary home equity and non-custodial parent income and assets (if the NCP profile is required).

If you know your FAFSA EFC, then hopefully it is because you completed a FAFSA and submitted it to Rice. Ditto the Profile.

Thanks for the feedback. I had problems completing my 2013 tax returns. I have one rental property being managed by a management company. The owner died and the files are in probate. I notified IDOC and Rice and was asked to complete the form with my 2012 returns but was told to wait until I complete the 2013. 2013 returnd completed on Monday, sent to Rice via email and IDOC via USPS.

The CSS Profile was done timely. I just could not complete the IDOC.
