I have a brother who graduated from Rice Univesity 3-4 years ago. Am I a senior in High School right now? No, I'm still a Junior. I have been taking regular high courses for my last three years and I'm planning to get my average up this year right now. (Regular courses hurt me right or does it not??) I plan to take honors and AP courses next year as a Senior. I'm going for a 2060 on my SAT and possibly be taking about 2-3 SAT IIs in May and June. I want to major in Psychology.

I have a feeling that the high school GPA I will graduate with might be around the 3.3-3.4. Yes, I do regret for my past unconditional learning experience. I'm starting to shape up really good right now. I just want to know what are my chances for Rice's school of Social Science? How many people are there at Rice that are majoring in Social Sciences?

My extracurricular activities so far are Community Service at Queens Library and United Federation of teachers, A member of the Key Club, and I have a Secretary position at the Good Times Center afterschool.

If I don't have the GPA to get into Rice, should I go to a State University of New York (SUNY) schools and then transfer over I meet their requirements?

I heard Rice takes about 100 transfer students a year.

Or yet.. should I apply to their Martel Associates College instead??

^Do you mean humanities? Rice is broken down into 6 schools: business, architecture, music, natural science, humanities, and engineering. Those SATs might not be high enough-check out their scores. You'd be close to the 25th percentiles, even if you did accomplish your goal. Good luck and everything, but don't get your heart set on it.

I personally dont like chances because they are dumb and the people you ask generally know as much as you do, but not always.

Everyone has a chance. There are so many aspects to the admissions process that there is no way we can know. People with perfect scores and 4.0s are rejected because they have no personality. There are some who get in with 1200's and 3.5s because they are very talented.

You arent even a senior yet. Stop worrying and focus on getting your grades up and being dedicated to a few EC's. You dont know how well you will do on the SAT, you could do abysmally and then you also have to take the subject tests. Your brother going there does give you an edge but if you dont have the grades, the scores, the personality, or the EC's, it's just not going to happen.

You can always apply and see what happens. You never know. And if you dont get into Rice, there are plenty of schools out there that I'm sure you would be just as happy (maybe even happier) to be at. If you dont get in, then maybe Rice wasnt meant for you.

Yeah dude, there's always people that can't get in Rice as an incoming freshmen because they know they don't have the grades for it. But trust me, they enroll alot of transfer students as well. So you might want to re-think about the last line you said.

I know Rice is very diverse and prestigious, but I just think that since it's a small competitive, I like to gather with students who are in small classes with few students so I can gain a higher level of learning.

I mean I may not get in as a freshmen, but what are my chances of getting in as a transfer?

Please , I know there are tons of schools out there that are as selective as Rice and on the same level as Rice. I just need to find out which one of the top schools out there that are like Rice, but different, and fit my own personality more.

Even as a 3.3 student, I may get in to one of the top schools that have a connection like Rice.

colinization there is no undergrad business school. Humanities, Social Sciences, architecture, music, natural sciences, and engineering. transfer rates are around 25%, but they aren't gonna look at your HS stuff. Lots of people major in the social sciences, I believe its the second or first largest school in terms of students. It will be tough for you to get in, but what's the hurt in applying? No one can tell you if you can get in as a transfer, because you haven't even graduated high school yet

If you really want to go there, apply. If you don't then don't. Just because you have "no shot" at getting in doesn't mean you shouldn't apply if you want to go there...

Yeah I know this will sound cheesy but you difinitely won't get in if you don't apply. You might as well apply. All you have to lose is like the $50 app fee and a few hours filling out the app.
