Rich Rodriguez new UM coach

Rivals.com College Football - Michigan lands West Virginia's Rodriguez

great choice

PRAISE GOD, at least it isnt the ball state coach or one of the coordinators.

This is one heck of a hire. Sailor Bill has made me eat my own words (thank goodness!!), Sweatervest is in a corner peeing his pants.

Hopefully Terrelle Pryor follows him!

I think Pryor is gonna come. The next few weeks of recruiting are going to be pretty exciting. I think we are going to end up with a top 5 recruiting class.

Why would Pryor consider coming ... isn't that position a bit crowded here (even with Weinke decommiting)? Or do you guys think that Pryor is good enough to unseat Mallette?

With Rodriguez coming, the offense will likely switch to a spread, since that is what Rodriguez has always used and been successful with. Mallett is more of a pocket passer and doesn't do too much running. Pryor on the other hand is a great QB for a spread offense. He has speed and is a good passer. He's one of the top prospects in this years recruiting class. He played a lot of positions in highschool though, so he may not be limited to QB in college, who knows.

Rodriguez wants Pryor (Rod told Pryor that he was coming to U-M before he told his WV team), and Pryor loves Rod's offense, and would be a great fit for it. Going to be pretty interesting, we're going to have to wait and see with Mallett.

i think pryor's sudden interest in michigan (naming it one of his final schools without even visiting or looking into it much) shows his extreme confidence of, trust in, and admiration for rodriguez.

good chance he is in ann arbor next year...i agree with dsmo

Everyone is excited for his offense, but if he brings his 3-3-5 defense, there will be problems in the Big Ten against power teams.

SubMachine, I think that Michigan was initially a school where Pryor had some interest, but none as of late. Bringing in Rodriguez really turned that around.

I think there's a good chance he comes, but it raises some serious questions with Mallett. I think Mallett can fit, but is he going to want to even try competing with Pryor? But if Pryor doesn't come, then next year we will get a dual-threat quarterback. The Navarre-Henne-Mallett caveman area is coming to an end.

A2Wolves, I doubt Rodriguez will use a 3-3-5 defensive scheme at Michigan. Unlike the Big East, which has a passive running game and a more pass-happy offensive philosophy, the Big 10 has very powerful OLs and relies heavily on running games. 3-3-5 schemes aren't effective against Big 10 teams. I am pretty sure Michigan will move to a more aggressive 4-3-4 schemeunder Rodriguez.

What is Beiline doing to get Pryor, he should def. step his recruiting game up, this dude is one serious balla.

I wondered about that. Pryor said he wanted to try and play both basketball and football in college. I'm sure he could start on the Michigan basketball team. =</p>

I don't think he will be a two-sporter at Michigan. Don't think Beilein or Rodriguez would want to see that. And I think the two-sport talk has died down, BUT - I think Beilein might just have to put up with it - he can't be seen as the guy that stopped Michigan from getting the #1 recruit in the country.

mallett has a better arm

Mallett has a better arm, but I have not been impressed with his decision-making or his attitude. Hopefully, he will mature.

It doesn't matter if it will work or not. The coach gets to pick the defense, he picks his staff and they run the scheme he wants to run. Whether or not we think it will work isn't the issue.

i laugh whenever people say ryan mallett's slow and a pocket passer and wont fit in RROD's offense.. are you kidding me? who said Rich Rodriguez is going to run the pat white offense? history tells us that all Rich Rod's past offense are pass heavy.....and mallett likes to run too...being slow really doesnt matter...remember that guy named..um...tom brady?? i think he might be even slower than mallett....but he does well in a "spread offense"

Yeah, it seems like everyone assumes RR's spread offense requires a QB that runs with the ball. Mallett will do MUCH better with RR's spread O than with the **** DeBoring has had him doing. It's pretty much all he did in HS, and he was clearly having problems adjusting to not running spread last year -- dropped snap anyone?

That being said, I could see Pryor redshirting freshman year and being to Mallett what Tebow was to Leak last year. That, or he just downright beats Mallett out of his position and forces him to transfer. I'm happy either way.
