rich?

I once saw a middle-eastern looking kid with two guys following him around on North Campus. I think they were his body guards.

wow...im a very middle class person -_-x. Not too sure ill like Michigan's environment if its all rich snobby kids

We're not snotty... :'(

I really didn't get the rich snotty kids vibe. You usually can't tell differences in economic background.

yeah, you really can't tell because everybody pretty much dresses the same way anyway.

4 words.. north face denali jacket. if you don't have or get one, you're going to be left out.

all girls will have nice purses and uggs regardless of their family income. and it's harder to tell with guys because you can't really judge by the way they dress.

the only way it's obvious is when you see their cars.

It might also be wise to go to school owning a jacket and knowing what North Face is...

Some of us were more expensive shoes than Uggs because Uggs are ugly.

Dude, it really doesn't matter. UofM is so diverse that you are bound to find somebody from your group. Sure, there are rich kids here. One of my friends drives a Porsche convertible which his father gave him so that he could get a Ferrari. Then there are quite a few students from the lower income bracket who don't even know if they could finish college because of their financial situation.

In the end it's all about what you can make out of this school. Everybody is smart, competitive, and down to earth here. Because of the diversity, liberalism, the intensity of the academics, and the vast array of opportunities available most students don't even have the time to be snobbish.

On the other hand, think about what you want to accomplish once you arrive and how you can get it. The successful students here are those who have a clear goal of what they want to do. No one will hold your hand here.

Well, the household incomes is less than 10k. :( My parents reside in the middle east.

the asian kids are mostly better off than the rest (don't punch me)

Depends on where they are from, overseas, I would agree. In-state, probably not.

"Everybody is smart, competitive, and down to earth here. "
Haha, that made me think of a certain football player i met a few nights ago. He was the top recruit in his class, and he has been at prep school for htree years now trying to get an 880 on his SAT so he can finally play football at UM. Just kidding though. These people are few and mostly varsity athletes.

^^^ agree
10 char

Marques Slocum?

Even if it wasn't him...go look at his facebook. Hilarious.

yeah it's him. his myspace is even better.

"the asian kids are mostly better off than the rest"

^^ basically wrong. Most asians at UM are well off, but those that are wealthier than all the rest (per capita) are the students from the east coast (NY and NJ). They bring in all the M3s and Range Rovers that you will see everywhere.... and the girls wear tights with skirts and uggs in the winter/fall.... its a great look lol

I thought lots of girls at UofM wear tights with skirts and uggs in the winter/fall...

Being from the South, I am appalled by this northern fashion sense. Although hoodie and jeans are a comfy way to go, I'll admit...

im confused... you like or you dont like the ugg/tights/skirt combo?

Not gonna lie, I'm a hoodie/jeans person myself haha

Sorry, my clarity factor is low lots of times. I don't like the uggs/tights/skirt combo...but more than that, it just really weirded me out the first time I saw it. And then I saw it again. And again. And again.

And I began to wonder if people at this school knew what they looked like.

When I went home for Thanksgiving, I asked all my friends, who went to colleges all around the country, whether leggings were big at their schools and they were like, "Um, no...you're kidding, right?..."

She was just saying that the hideous fashion trend is prevalent among all U of M girls, not just the rich ones from NY/NJ.

Jeans and hoodie suffice until down in the 20s (maybe with a hat). Then I gotta bust out the really warm jacket.

Most of my friends (and people I know) at UM are pretty wealthy.
