Did anybody’s child get a mailer from UR discussing “productive discontent… while waiting and waiting” to hear from schools about admissions? Does receiving this mailer mean anything, such as a wink/wink from UR that you got in and they are already recruiting to get you to come? Or, maybe all applicants got this mailer, and it does not mean anything about acceptance one way or the other. Some other schools do send out wink/wink you have been accepted postcards. So, just curious.
Don’t think its a wink or a nod. I think S received same mailing. 2 more days to decision day. Going to be interesting to see how it plays out for those submitting scores vs. those that did not. Its an odd time and i’m sure it’s just as difficult for the admissions staff.
My son deferred. 35 ACT, 4.5 weighted GPA at top public school in MD, two varsity sports, decent extracurriculars. Per Naviance should have been no question admission. Don’t get it.
1510 SAT, 4.1 WGPA, varsity sport, community service, top NJ school - also deferred. Starting to feel discouraged as he has been deferred elsewhere too. He has one good option thankfully and some others he is waiting on. Tough year for others?
Extremely grateful that S (34 ACT, 4.2 WGPA, rural PA HS, varsity athlete, otherwise average (by CC standards) ECs, strong essays, etc.) was accepted EA. U Richmond could be a great fit for him, and we are thankful! I will admit that I was sweating bullets after reading posts like those above. It just feels to me that there has been a fundamental shift in recent years—with even high stat, high achieving kids having to scramble to find a place. I read posts on CC obsessively—trying to figure it all out, and hopefully help my kid unlock a path to success. I will admit, though, that the process is often baffling and frustrating. I really feel for these kids! I believe they will each find the place where they can grow and be successful, but the process can be brutal! Best wishes to all on the journey.
Accepted w/ presidential scholarship!!
4.0 UW, 98.2 W, 1520 SAT (720 R/800 M), 11 APs including calc and physics 1 and C, decent essays/ecs/lor, NM Commended Scholar.
This is such a weird year though. Was deferred from Villanova EA last week, according to Naviance VU and UR were same level/chance of acceptance. I showed tons of demonstrated interest for UR (used campus tour fee waiver), vs. none for VU, thinking maybe that has something to do with it? Either way, colleges are deferring so many qualified applicants this year who absolutely deserve to get it. Hang in there
same here. 35ACT 4.1 WGPA. deferred to Richmond and another comparable school. accepted with top merit to a small private school so far. its an odd process but having gone through similar experience with older D 21, come mid March to mid April things become a bit clearer when some of the deferments become acceptances. it really does not make a whole lot of sense why candidates are deffered at some shcools and are awarded merit at another similarly ranked school. Eventualy they wind up where they belong and succeed where ever they land. D 21 ended up in Florida (not one of her first 2 options) and is doing very well there ending her first semester with straight A’s. She initially did not think she would hit it off with the typical student there, but she was pleaently surprised by the depth of the student body and found a great group of friends in her first semester there.
