I'm currently looking to transfer from my current school because of it's fraternity/fraternity-like organization stranglehold on the social scene and the generally non-intellectual atmosphere on campus. I like Richmond because I feel that it can offer me the quintessential college experience, however I've been trying to figure out, based on reviews, whether Richmond is fratty/super social to a point where it becomes a bit of a party school. If you had to compare Richmond to a well-known university in terms of frat/sorority control of the social scene and general intellectual environment, which would it be?

I don’t really know a good comparison university but U of R is a pretty large party school. We are very much a study hard party hard school. That being said some people do not party but those people are sometimes hard to find. Frats and Sororities do have a very large presence however, they don’t live together so they are much more relaxed than at other schools. All of the parties at U of R are through the frats though and there is not a very large alternative to partying. The school is trying to make an effort to increase dry events and alternative events on the weekends but right now there is only one alternative every saturday. Personally, I love my school and the social scene. Although most people do party, there is never any pressure to do anything. Please feel free to message me if you have questions!

frenchy, just curious what year you are.
