Richmond Scholars

I submitted to Boatwright and Oldham.

Good luck to everyone! :)

I did boatwright and oldham too!! Good Luck everybody!!

Did anyone receive a confirmation that their additional materials have reached?

ladyxstardust- where did you see on bannerweb that you were still being considered for the scholarship? i applied before the dec. 15 deadline, but on banner web it says that my applivation wasn’t processed for quite awhile after that so i hope i’m still going to be considered! thanks!

Oops, I didn’t mean I was being “considered,” (as in, I have a chance…I definitely don’t) it just said: Richmond Scholars Applicant
Which means that they got my app by the 15th, which was my original worry because I didn’t get a confirmation email until later. Sorry for any confusion… :)

Edit: And I submitted my app on the 14th via commonapp.

OMG!

"Congratulations! You have been selected as a semi-finalist for a Richmond Scholars merit-based scholarship at the University of Richmond. "

I can’t believe it! I really didnt expect that!

btw I cant login to Bannerweb. Do I have to call them or is there any other way to fix that?

However there are two problems:
I have to write two papers and have my teacher grade and comment one of them
and I have only until January 25! Is it usual to have only four or five days or is it a mistake?

That does seem like short notice. I think I had a little over a week to get mine in.

When you say you have to write a paper and have your teacher grade it, are you talking about the materials for the Boatwright designation? Because I think you’re just supposed to submit a paper that you’ve already finished and had graded in school (it says from your junior or senior year).

Sorry if I misunderstood what you were saying, but, if I’m correct, that means one less essay :)

OK, I guess I’ll ask them, maybe they will give me more time.

You gotta understand that educational system is totally different from the system in US high schools. We do NOT write any papers. At most we write one or two page long “essay” in Czech language twice a year. We write it at school and we have about 90 minutes. It’s not exactly essay, because we have several possible topics and the way we would write it - narrative, description etc…(dunno the english names)

In English classes the longest “paper” we have ever written was like 300 words.

I guess I’m screwed on this, because there is a little chance I’ll get it all on time (if I write it at all…).

And this sentence is a real killer “of no more than ten pages”. If I would write something, I’d been happy if it was 1 or 2 pages. No chance I!ll come even close to it…

Ah, okay, I can see how it’d be different for internationals.

The “no more than ten pages” thing, though, means your submission has to be ten pages or less, so you could submit something that was one or two pages. Mine was actually really short.

Oh, and I looked up how long I had to turn mine in, and I definitely had ten days to submit it. Hopefully they give you a couple more days; that seems a bit unfair. Good luck!

Thanks for help.

Good to know. I was afraid tht everone has rather long papers like 5-10 pages. I guess I’ll be able to put something reasonable about a page long long, but that would be the upside.

I’ll write them asap and ask them. Thanks.

Ah! Sorry for the delay in replying, MMouse, but I got notified January 10th or so about my status, and I did Oldham/Boatwright. I think we’ll hear back mid-February or so if we’ve been made finalists because they’re all called down to the University in early March… =/

Also, bigcheese, the only confirmation that they received your materials is in the application status part of your bannerweb account. At least that’s the only one I’ve found >.>

Hi, do you think that a movie or book review could be acceptable? It was the longest paper I found that we have ever written in the English class. (about a page long)

How were you notified about being a finalist? Was it on the banner website, an email or a formal letter through the mail?

I got notified of my semifinalist position through both email and regular mail

emfo- i got notified on december 18th and my due date was january 4th. so like two weeks (but that’s because the offices were closed for winter break). the finalists go out in waves, and i think sometime maybe this week maybe the last wave (all based on rumors.)

I was notified by email and I had only five days, really not much time…

does anyone know what the essay for the oldham is suppossed to be about? and is there still hope of still being selected as a semifinalist, or have all the semifinalists already been notified?

All have been notified and now they are selecting finalists.

The admission blog says notifications will be until early Feb. and that this Friday is NOT the last day, although notifications are “winding down.”

I got only 5 days for my essays (until 29th) and when I asked whether I could get more time like other applicants, I was told that they need to receive additional materials from all students by then and because of that he could not postpone the deadline.
