Richmond Wake Emory Davidson

Son got into these schools. We visited and he loved them all. He’s a strong student but he says he doesn’t want to go to college with a bunch of “gunners”. He goes to an elite private school and doesn’t care about keeping up with the Jones or hanging with the study-all-the-time my-life-is-worthless-if-I-don’t-into-Harvard crowd. Are the students at these school fairly “chill” and how do they compare. He says he’s looking for smart but chill and likes to have fun on weekends. Thanks.

How does he know about Wake already? Did he get a scholarship?

How is he already into all 4 of these? Davidson only has ED and RD, same with Wake and Emory.
There are slackers and gunners at all schools, these 4 are no exception. However, based on the students that attend these 4 from our HS(also an elite private school), UofR is where the more"chill" students go, compared to the other 3. Small sample size/anecdotal at best.

Based on the kids we know… Emory > Davidson > Wake > Richmond… from least to most chill. But as 2Devils pointed out, he should be able to find his people at any of these schools.

I also wasn’t aware these results had been released (edit: other than Richmond)…

I would agree with Richmond being the most relaxed. But you can find your place at any school. Every school will have its share of gunners. I’d confirm with him which schools he’s really heard from at this point.

Davidson is pretty chill, particularly when compared to my son’s hyper-competitive private high school. The kids that we know that attend are whip smart, laid-back and happy.

But, I am also confused about how you would have responses from all four of these institutions.

seems like we all want to know how you have acceptances already.

This year? Their RD decisions havent come out yet…as far as I know.

Please clarify.

My apologies! I thought he was in but looks like he’s still waiting to hear from some of these schools. Just curious what the schools are like. I’m leaving the application process up to him. Thanks for the replies.
