how did you know that you wanted to go into law school? right now im in a career crisis and i just dont want to make the wrong decision... i know i can always switch majors, but law school is already alot of years... so how could you tell that you wanted to go into law or what were some of the things that interested you about law?

i'm only at the applying-to-law-school stage, but what made me decide I wanted to be a lawyer (as opposed to everyone saying i should be one since i like to read, write, and debate and i'm interested in politics) was working for a policy advocacy organization, and being really interested in one subfield. that area of policy is quite technical, and most people who work in the field are lawyers.

when I saw that going to law school would allow me to do something I wanted to do, that's when i realized i needed to go. i think of law school as a tool that gets me where i want to be. if there's any way for you to shadow as many lawyers as you can (in big firms, small firms, public interest, government jobs, corporate counsels, etc.) for as long as you can, that might help you decide whether being a lawyer is right for you.

also, lots of people take time off before going to law school. taking the lsats, exam prep, application fees, not to mention the tuition of law school itself, make it a big investment. maybe you could work in a law firm or a legal services organization after you graduate, and see if you really like it before applying.
