Right Track?

Hi guys, I currently attend an Ivy League school, and have a 3.8 GPA. My school gives 4.3 for A+, and was wondering if that is competitive for HYS Law since my gpa is already 3.8/4.33? What LSAT score coupled with my GPA might I need to have a good chance for top 5, hopefully? And does being Asian count at all? In college admissions it might have affected a bit, I dont know, but I read that ethnicity or being a minority doesnt matter as much in graduate schools.

Being Asian won’t help. However, if your Ivy undergrad is Harvard, Yale or Princeton, that might give you a tiny bump.

Your 3.8GPA will still require you to get a top LSAT score to get into a top school. I recommend doing some research on [Top Law Schools](http://top-law-schools.com) - the fact that you referred to the top 5 instead of the top 6 suggests you haven’t done too much, and TLS has just about everything you might want.

If you go to that website and look at the rankings, you’ll notice that the top 6 schools have respective 25th percentile GPA’s of 3.83, 3.72, 3.78, 3.6, 3.71, and 3.57. That means that 75% of those who attended each of these schools had a GPA at this level or higher.

Far more important, though, is your LSAT score. There are countless high GPA’s out there due to grade inflation (especially in the Ivy League). However, there are a very limited supply of high LSAT scores, and so schools are vying for those high scorers. That where you want to be - having these top schools fighting for you to attend.

According to myLSN, you’ll need at least the following LSAT scores to have a good chance at the following schools:

(I left out Yale and Stanford, because they’re not so numbers-obsessed)

Harvard: 175
Columbia: 171
Chicago: 171
NYU: 170

These might be easy scores for you to get, but you still probably will need to study - don’t just assume the LSAT will be easy for you. Remember, the average Harvard undergrad only gets a 166 on the LSAT.
