How much weight does NU place on the rigor of your schedule? Im trying to decide if i should take 3 or 4 AP classes next year. I would prefer to take 3 so then I could go to the local university and take a class there too.

i don't think one AP class will make a difference. I think the college class would look good too so either way you would be ok.

yeah 1 won't, but add 3 to 4 more and it will.

What APs are you planning on taking? If that one AP class is an easy one..psychology, music theory, whatever..then I don't think it would make a huge difference buf if you're planning on taking another core science/math/english/language class it might!

I am taking AP Calc, Psych, and Lit. I still haven't decided if i should take physics or not. I don't want to have too rigorous of a schedule and set myself up for failure. Have any of you taken physics yet? If so, how demanding is it?

i'm in ap physics currently. it's not too demanding at all, that is, if you enjoy and are good at math. Are taking physics B or C?

If you are taking 3 APS and 1 dulaenrollment at a local university- i postive that they will consider that the daem (or possibly better) than 4 APs. THey are both four college level classes.

It really depends on the school, but at mine, physics B is a piece of cake, physics C is hard as hell if you don't know your calculus. How many slots can your schedule fit? I think a good idea is to make your schedule as hard as possible, because having a hard senior year will prepare you well for college; if you try hard enough you should do fine. Before you enroll in a course at a college it's best to check to see if the colleges you're applying to will take that credit, because if they don't, it's better to take AP, so you'll get college credit.

i slightly disagree gene, having a hard senior year will prepare you well for college, but it also may be hard for you to handle senioritis. i am currently in all ap classes and i have terrible senioritis and regret my class choices. so i think it may depend on the work ethic of the op.

ditto to hotpiece, im dying in physics b and calc now
yuck
physis b is no piece of cake
itsmore like a shot of cyanide.

im taking 6 APs right now...its challenging but not impossible.

I'm taking 5....AP Calc BC, AP Stats, AP Chem, IB English 12 and IB History....w/ one none IB/AP class...Wind Symphony. If your good at time managing...definetly not impossible.

PS. I also have a life. Work 15 hrs a week at a chem lab, tutor twice a week, do everything musical under the sun and varsity swimming...hard...but not impossible.

We have 6 available slots for classes. I checked and the credits at the local university will barely transfer anywhere out of state so that is basically out of the picture now. Our class registration is due Friday and I am still unsure of whether I should take 3 or 4 APs. Physics would be B and C because all of our AP courses are a year long so its just like having two semesters of each class. Our Calc class is AB and BC but we sign up for it as one year long class. How many hours of homework a night do you think I would have if I took calc, lit, psych and physics? I understand it would differ between schools, but what would be a rough estimate? Sorry for such a long post.

well, that is similar to my schedule. i'm in ap calc, ap physics, ap lit, ap spanish, and ap gov (next tri i will add ap stats). Calc and physics aren't too bad in combo b/c they are both like math classes (especially if you take physics C). lit is a lot of reading (but that depends on school, teacher, etc.). i hear that psych is a lot of memorization, but i wouldn't know. currently i get about 4 hrs. of homework a night.

Wow 4 hours a night is a lot. The most any senior is taking this year is 4 and it's only one person. I'm not sure if I could devote that much time to homework with extracurriculars.

yeah, i get 4 hrs. a night, but i only spend 1 or 2 hrs. doing it, so my grades are not as stellar as they should be.

like i said earlier, i slightly disagree with gene, b/c having a s hitload of work senior year is not cool...

So do you think that taking the 4th AP is worth having a better chance at getting into NU or not? Or will it not really make that much of a difference. I will graduate having taken the most rigorous schedule besides one AP this year and one next year if I don't take physics.

well, the fourth ap you are considering is ap physics right?

is this physics b or c. if it is c it should be relatively easy b/c you are taking it in combo with calc. if it is b it should still be easy from a mathematics standpoint b/c the math never goes higher than trig.

Yeah, its physics B and C. They are combined for a year long course. So you would do it?

yeah, i would do it only if you enjoy math. physics c should be easy b/c you would have already hit the major portions of the math (integrals, etc.) in calc. physics b should be easy b/c it is seriously just algebra. but only do them if you don't mind a little extra work and if you are good at math.

but i don't want to fool you, there is some conceptual work in physics.

but which exam are you taking? b/c the b exams covers a wider range of material than the c exam. but the c exam goes farther in depth.
