my concerns: 1) APUSH taking up all of my time. 2) spanish 5-6 (my third year of FL) being too much work to add on to my schedule.
so questions are: those with experience in spanish 5-6, how much work was it?
does this schedule seem manageable or too difficult?
It’s a case by case basis. No one on this forum can know how you will do with this schedule, only you. I can speak from experience and tell you that last year when I took 5 APs (including APUSH, AP Chem, and AP Calc), I was more than fine and got a mid-to-high A in all of them, but a friend of mine also took 5 APs and got middling Bs in most of her classes.
If you’re aiming for top schools, you need to challenge yourself. Continue with Spanish, the higher the level, the better. You really shouldn’t stop on your third year, most schools wanna see 4+. APUSH, from experience last year, isn’t as bad as people chalk it up to be, but I’m a history buff. Does this schedule put you towards the top of those in your school with the most rigorous schedules? It’s different for each school. Like I said, me taking 5 APs my junior year put me with the lump of kids with the most rigorous schedule for my school, whereas other schools taking 2 APs junior year (due to a lack of APs offered, or other reasons) will put them at the top of their class top difficulty.
Difficulty is important, but your mental health is always more important. While I managed to get through junior year with some pretty stellar grades, I’d be the first to admit balancing everything definitely took a toll on my mental health, especially during second semester. As long as you can do well in all of these classes and not go insane, then I recommend keeping your schedule as is. Try out the schedule, see if you can manage it, and if not make some adjustments. It’s always easier going down than going up. Definitely keep Spanish though, like I said. Good luck with your junior year!
