I go to a very rigorous high school in the United States, in fact, just to get in I had to take a test. My question is, will colleges take into account that I went to a rigorous high school because if I went to a normal high school, I would have gotten 95-100 for every class but my school has way harder classes but will colleges know that, especially when comparing my GPA to the GPA of a normal high school student?
Dude(tte), you got in. In addition, you come from a very diverse area and likely have had very interesting cultural experiences. The admissions officials will be like “holy cow, this kid made (for example) a 3.6 at this magnet school. And they’ve been exposed to all sorts of cool culture. AND they already know a lot about (field of study) because they took some super hard and specialized classes.” So even if your GPA isn’t a 4, they WILL take into account the school you went to.
Congrats on getting in, and here’s hoping you don’t have to go from the first four to the twelfth in those four minutes;)
(I don’t go there, but I have a friend who was looking to apply.)
Yes, colleges will know that it is a selective school and look at your class rank and GPA accordingly
Yes and no. Yes, it is likely that the admissions officer is familiar with the academic rigor of the high school. However, if numerous students from your school apply to the same college, you can rest assured that the AO will put the folders in rank order even if the HS does not rank.
