Hi,

I've been accepted to UMass Dartmouth, Massart, Ringling College of Art and Design, and waitlisted at RISD (3rd group... but it's probably for the best because I can't afford it). I've narrowed my choices down to Massart and Ringling, and I'm planning to major in Graphic Design. If anyone has any information they are willing to share, please do!

Also, I am thinking about trying to transfer into RISD after two years of another school since I got waitlisted and for financial reasons.

A little background information on me : I've been serious about art for the last two years. My high school has a pretty crappy arts program for freshmen and sophomores, so I was really turned off by it. my GPA weighted is a 4.0, I'm serious about my studies. I'm from Massachusetts, so Massart is ideally located, but I just came back from visiting Ringling and I liked it even though there is pretty much nothing to do outside of campus, which is a downside. I'm visiting Massart this week.

let me know what you think!

As a resident of Mass you will get such a good tuition deal at MassArt and I think their graphic department is pretty strong. But any place is what you make of it anyway. The Boston location with the museum just 5 minutes away, it’s a great neighborhood and tuition for a Mass resident can’t be beat.

I would lean towards MassArt as well. Although I am not familiar with the graphic design department, if it is strong (and you can easily find out, if you don’t already know!), then between the tuition, location (so many other colleges in the immediate vicinity), practically on the train line to anywhere in the area, known reputation, it is a great choice. The only downside would be if you really want to get away from Massachusetts – but Ringling just offers warmth. The immediate area is not great for students, and Sarasota, although a fabulous southern town, is not particularly youthful. But try to look at the school where you think you’ll be happiest, rather than transferring. Good luck!

Thanks guys. I’m leaning towards massart.
