I know this is a little OT, but I read today that Miller had died and thought it would be an appropriate thing to post. I first read The Crucible when I was eleven and loved it, and then went on to read some of his other works. I saw After The Fall starring Six Feet Under's Peter Krause (who was phenomenal) in New York this past summer. Being semi-autobiographical of Miller, it was fascinating.

R (September)--
I found out about Miller from the television news yesterday and immediately burst into tears. I've taught Miller a lot (in literature, not drama classes). He's not only a theatre great, but in American literature he's at the top with the legendary Walt Whitman, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Mark Twain, Emily Dickinson, and Robert Frost. It feels to me like that era has now closed. We have fantastic newer (and new) playwrights (my daughter was just in a one act I can't wait to teach called "Defying Gravity"), as well as exciting novelists and poets, but only time will tell who will be called to ascend the height of Miller and the other legends.

Yes, Arthur Miller is a graduate of the University of Michigan. Michigan recently started construction on a new Theater that will bear his name.

He was, in fact, he was very fond of his education at the University and often returned to Ann Arbor.
