RIS shows bar--lack of final hs transcript

Orientation is next week but UT still hasn't received the final transcript. Is he going to be able to register for classes if it isn't received by Wednesday?

Yes, most high schools don’t get the transcript in very quickly. In Austin high schools, classes just ended yesterday. Other area schools are still in session tomorrow.

Your son can register, but if UT doesn’t receive the transcript by sometime in the fall, he will be dropped from his classes.

Thank you. I felt like that was the case but the RIS page said you would not be allowed to register until the bar was removed.

I have another question. My older son lives in an apartment in West Campus. Can my incoming son go there to register Wednesday so I don’t have to send my laptop?

If your son is registering on Wednesday, this may be too late. At orientation, all the incoming freshmen gather in the library to register at a particular time on a particular day. Places in lots of classes open up at that time. It may be possible for UT to restrict which IP addresses can access the registration system to those just from UT.

I would not buck the system and send a laptop (or perhaps an (I-pad) so your son can get in the classes he needs.

From my daughter’s experience at last year’s orientation, she used her own laptop to register for classes in our hotel room. Your son will not have to register at Flawn (on site); in fact, my daughter’s adviser suggested that all students try and register with their own device as it is really crowded at Flawn. Your son can check with his adviser before registering, but given my daughter’s experience, I think he would be fine registering from West Campus.

At orientation two years ago, I registered on a computer in a computer lab with a bunch of other students. Many brought their laptop which was a good move because the line at the computer lab was lengthy so some people didn’t end up registering until after waiting in line.

Thanks for the info!
