I’m graduating c/o 2018 and I wanted to do something productive the summer before I start college. I live in the San Francisco area and I am interested in an internship/summer reserach program preferably involving tech, engineering, or computer science. I was only able to find Google’s CSSI. Does anyone know of other programs?
You live in silicon valley, I would imagine you could probably throw a stone blindfolded and hit a tech company. The best thing you can do is try your family/friends connections, odds are someone knows someone who can help you out.
Go volunteer somewhere. Go hiking. Learn to windsurf. Be a lifeguard. Enjoy the few months you have.
Don’t worry about what will look good when you interview for a job in a few years…do something interesting and personal. The unexpected truth…those looking to hire you will be more impressed with your doing something you/re passionate about than by you doing 3 months for a company with a household name. Take a moment to acknowledge your accomplishments…and hit the ground re-charged when school starts in the fall.
That’s a once in a lifetime summer to have closure with your close HS friends, to take a breath and enjoy time off. It’ll be the last opportunity in a long time. It’s so tempting to get stuck in the mouse cage doing stuff for the future that we forget to do stuff for now.
