summer after high school graduation

what are some programs/ internships that are for incoming freshmens...i know of the national youth science camp...do u guys know any others?

why not relax and enjoy your last summer at home?

I am looking forward to saving for a Beemer

BUMP. does anyone else have good internships for incoming college freshmen?

i'd really like to know too
anybody?

Internships vary with your location and interests. You can't really say "this internship is good for college freshmen and this one is for a senior." Where are you going? What do you want to do? What do you want out of it?

How about... summer research programs (in maybe neuroscience or mech. engineering) around the southern california area that are not too intensive (intensive as in 6 days a week or required to stay at institution).

Take the summer off, seriously. No one expects anything from you this summer...not grad schools, not employers, NO ONE!

There is absolutely no reason why you should be doing anything this summer besides saving money for the fall, hanging out with your friends, and getting excited about the fall. The hard work will come soon enough and then you can deal with these decisions. If you're this hardcore about summer programs, then this will likely be your last free summer ever. For the love of all that is holy, enjoy it!

Enjoy it. You're going to be working the rest of your life. I realized the other day I have no more summers left ever. This is after one year of college. Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled about my coop job and my classes, but seriously, enjoy your summer after graduation and look forward to the new things that await you.

This is the ideal summer to get a job (or continue in one) and put money aside for future travel or school expenses. (Working will help you appreciate school when fall comes - hanging out at the beach will not.) Do save some free time to see friends and take a vacation with the family. It's your last summer to be a kid!

hopefully there will be more useful comments so i’m trying to revive this thread…missed out on the NSA research opportunity (dont forget for next year if you are interested that its due in november…we missed it) anything else so might want to share for kids interested in engineering who dont want to sit on the beach all summer?

I mostly chilled my summer before college and it was a great decision - I started my freshman year relaxed, rested and ready to go. During that summer, I also stumbled upon a really high-paying tutoring job on craigslist. I still have money saved up from it. I would suggest that you get a good-paying job in your hometown, but nothing too time-intensive.

Getting an internship as a rising freshman is extremely difficult and only rarely worthwhile. It’s more worthwhile, in my opinion, to try to get a summer job, like millions of other teenagers. It’s always pretty awesome to make purchases with money you earned through your own hard work.
