UC: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UC Irvine
USC-iffy
University of Pacific - safety :b
Cornell, UPenn = my Ivies
Stanford - hehehehehhehe…not getting in, but why not
Northwestern- counselor said that Middle colleges/universities like us California people because we are weird…

I still don’t know where to apply. Today my friend accused me of being a shallow person for only wanting to apply to top schools, which is not true because I’m considering my local community college. lol. yes. I was considering staying close by for just a year so I can help my little sister adjust to high school. My other option is to just take a year off. lol. I’m so burnt out. But I seriously don’t know where to go.

^ How is that shallow? I would think it would be more shallow to look down upon schools that aren’t in the top tier.

I’ve kind of started the admissions process - I’ve visited a bunch of colleges, wrote my first draft of my common app essay, and am asking for recommendation letters. Here’s my list so far (I’m probably going to narrow it down a lot eventually)

UDel (match)
UNH (in between match and safety)
URI (safety)
Ithaca (match)
SUNY Fredonia (safety)
SUNY Potsdam ^
Montclair State ^
Rowan ^
Rutgers NB (match)
Providence ^
TCNJ (reach, but i don’t want to go there - my mom is making me apply)
Wooster (match)

My GPA isn’t amazing or anything, so I’m definitely not applying to any ivies. Plus, I’m majoring in music ed in college, so the whole college admissions process is pretty different and a lot more complicated.

^ The essays questions rarely differ from year to year and the multiple essay topics provided by the Common App (including determine your own topic) leave no restraints on what you can write about (Of course one should be prudent in determining a suitable topic).

I haven’t decided…
ED to Carnegie Mellon
or
EA to Carnegie Mellon
EA to Stanford
EA to Cornell possibly

If I don’t get in to any of those…
Case Western
Ohio State
Ohio Wesleyan
Ohio University
University of Chicago
Pepperdine
Rochester Inst. of Tech.
Kent State
Start State

EA is not binding, so if you have the stats, there are no real downsides to applying early. And some schools you have to apply to early to be considered for scholarships, but I’m not sure what Case’s policy is on this.

MIT (EA)
Washington University in St. Louis
Vanderbilt University (maybe)
UIUC
The University of Tennessee
The University of Alabama
Mississippi State University

@lks1992, I think it’s kind of shallow to dislike a school (or a person who likes the school) just because it is a top 20. They obviously don’t have enough knowlege of the institution and they’re stereotyping that it is just an uptight snobbish place, whilst not caring about the fact that the university has many award winning professors and great departments.

I’m not totally sure where I’ll be applying…
I’m not like you guys, I’m definitely not a “top student” my grades are low (especially 9th/10th grade), I have no EC’s, I don’t really have any teachers to ask for recommendations.

Some possibilities:

Catholic University of America
Champlain College
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
Fairfield University
Florida Institute of Technology
Manhattan College
Marquette University
New York Institute of Technology
Rochester Institute of Technology
Temple University
University of Dayton
University of Hartford
Valparaiso University
Western New England College
York College of Pennsylvania

I need some safeties because a lot of these are probably reaches.

Also, would you suggest applying as early as possible to rolling admissions schools or should I wait until I can send my first quarter senior year grades? (which will hopefully be good)
