Rising Sophmore: Post Schedule

thesiren, your self studying all those ap's?!?!

How do you expect to do that? Please fill me in! :P

anybody got feedback on my scheduale??? I need to know if it's strong, weak, mediocore.

Global Studies II H
Chemistry H
Gym
Comp. Applications
Geometry H
Biology H
English 10 H
French II

My school doesn't offer APs for sophmores because you need prerequisites. I am taking AP Chemistry and US History next year, hopefully

I expect to start studying for the AP Psyc. test starting around january or february using barrons...I know some psychology, but I want to learn more..I really wanted to take this course this year, but due to scheduling conflicts..I couldn't..so I'll just take the test

AP English Lang....I took practice tests and I got 5s, it was really easy for me (my school doesn't offer AP English Lang. at the moment), which is why I have to take it before they add the MLA citations to the test (i'm weak in that area, but they don't add it to the test until 2007).

AP World History, I'm already in the honors class (they don't offer it as an AP at my school)..I already talked to the teacher and the class will basically cover most of what I need to know for the test..also I'm taking the SAT II: World History (so why not take the AP along with it?)..I'll have to skip ahead of the class around March to cover the topics she'll cover in mid May, but I think I will be alright based on the content of the test..what I'm really nervous about is the DBQ's...

Also, I'm graduating early, so I want colleges to see that I can handle a college courseload..it's just that it's not being offered to me..so it's kind of like I'm showing my passion for learning..

there is nothing wrong with taking AP calc BC in ur sophomore year. In korea we had a group of kids who finished calculus by 9th grade. Of course i was the late one and did it during my sophomore winter.

AP Music Theory
IB(? Schedule and teacher are ambiguous on this point...) Calc I
PIB English
PIB History
AP Government
French IV
PIB Chemistry
Strings V

I'm self-studying AP Stat and Russian (randomly) as well. Possibly, I'll try to self-study AP English Language, but I'm not sure...

It's really cool to see what a variety of classes there are out there... My school used to offer Latin (and Physics, the absence of which Really Sucks), but now all we have is French, Spanish, and German.

thesiren, all of your self-study stuff looks really awesome! I think that it's really great that you're taking your education into your own hands and all that.

Clemenciae, thank you so much, i think that it's cool that you are self studying Russian..your courses indicate that you have a passion in music (correct me if i'm wrong), it shows that you are passionate and don't care about cramming your schedule full of AP classes just for class rank..i think that's really cool, because many people lose sight of this as they go up to tenth grade and beyond..also i just noticed your a new member..hope you have fun and get valuable information from CC..

Enriched Algebra II
Honors PreCalc
Honors Chem
Physics
Honors English II
Honors US History II
French II
Visual Basic/Java
Phys Ed/Drivers Ed :(

haha, well, i'm 3 months late, but i'll jump on the bandwagon now anyways.

my school only offers 1 AP class so i don't even have to mess with that :D

Biology(level 3)
Algebra II(level 4)
French 3(level 1)
Spanish 2(level 1)
Modern American History(level 3)
Adolesents in Literature(Level 4) --Semester 1
Modern British Literature(Level 2) --Semester 2
Exploring Media Literature(Level 5) --Semester 1
Wellness--Semester 2

At my school there's levels, 1 being the highest and going down from there. hahaha i'm taking really easy classes and STILL not doing good(straight C's) oh well :?

In my experiences, it is best to gradually build up the number of AP courses you take. Allow yourself to be involved in ECs at an early point (sophomore year) then as you get used to balancing academics and ecs, then add more rigorous classes to your schedule the following year.

I think that this shows progression and maturation better than taking like 5 AP classes sophomore year. (Which I can't imagine any "sane" sophomore actually wanting to do. Perhaps parental coercion? Perhaps I'm wrong.)

This year at my school, I noticed sophomores this year burning out with the number of hard classes they had (3 aps) and they received bad grades this semester. Not only does that hurt their self-esteem, but it shows a lack of management and planning.

Anyways, enjoy life.

1) Chemistry
2) Art Studio
3) American History Honors (I took all of Global Freshmen year)
4) Gym
5) English
6) Math B 1/2 [Geometry/Trigonometry]
7) Free
8) Anatomy & Physiology

My school sucks... they only offer two honors classes sophomore year, and they have very few AP classes to begin with.

1)AP Modern European Histrory
2)Spanish 3
3)Geometry
4)English 10
5)Chemistry 10
6) Study Hall
7) First term-Digital Publishing, Second Tern-painting, Third Term-some random computor science class.
There are only AP classes and regular classes offered at my school. There is one honor course-BIo 15 which I took as a freshman

Here's how I did it:

9th:
AP Stats

10th:
AP Physics B
AP Calculus BC(Yes, I self-studied during precalc, and I advise it to all sophomores who are strong in math).
AP Computer Science AB

11th(present):
AP Phys C Mech
AP Phys C E&M
AP Chem
AP USH
AP Env Science(not sure, selfstudy)

You see, the trick is to build up AP's. If you take a few AP's each year in HS, it is both far easier to study for the exams(less exams each year), and it allows you to take post-AP courses junior and senior year.

Yeah I did essentially what sagar did sophomore year
I self-studied BC calc and took AP Bio and AP chem in school. I also recommend self-studying BC (the course is a waste of time at my school).
This year im in:
AP Stats
AP USH
AP Physics C Mech
AP Physics C E&M
AP Env Science (self-study)
AP World History (self-study)

my post AP courses are my favorite. Totally worth taking all those APs and self-studying :).

My school has no post-AP classes, and only three of fifteen APs (even while testing out) are available through sophomore year. By completion of my (current) junior year, I will have taken:
10th: Spanish IV (Language), US History
11th: Chemistry, Spanish V (Literature), World History
English ends in AP after three years, and no self-study to skip is permitted.
Math has a similar program, but Statistics is offered in 11th grade; it has to be taken as a separate class from the main math track unless one wants to quit math afterwards.
Science's main AP track includes Chemistry and Physics; Environmental Science is an offshoot and follows the same rules as Math (one cannot take Physics w/o Chem, and Chem is a double period when only seven periods are offered).
The foreign language APs (Spanish, French, Latin IV/V and German IV) allow placement by ability and allow self-study.
The social studies APs are mostly available only to seniors, and no self-study is permitted; the track includes APUSH (10), then either World History or Modern European History (11), then Government (12, 1st semester). The final semester makes use of the AP electives.
