Rising Sophomore HELP!

Hello… My dd is also class of 14… she will be taking an AP psych class… though it was tough to get permission… Her GC wouldnt ok and told me I had to ask the principal…he granted permission, though reluctantly…

What are you thoughts on the keystone/flvs programs? Are you able to juggle this type of online course with your “brick and mortar” courses? Do you have to “log in” for a virtual lesson from time to time? Did they prepare you for your AP exam in May? What were your scores?

Many thanks!

My school doesn’t even allow sophomores or freshmen to take AP courses, so my plan is:

sophomore year (this september)
-English 10 Honors
-Chemistry Honors
-Algebra II Honors
-American History I Honors
-French 3 Honors
-Possibly another elective, either visual basic 2 or public speaking

junior year
We are allowed to take only three AP courses in junior year.

-AP Biology
-AP Language and Composition
-AP U.S. History
-Pre Calculus Honors
-French 4 Honors
-Physics Honors
-Possibly an elective

senior year
We’re allowed to take four AP courses in senior year.

-AP Physics
-AP Literature and Composition
-AP Calculus
-AP Euro History (if I take French 5)
-AP French/French 5 (if I take AP Euro History)
-Psychology/Anatomy/another elective

I currently take two online classes via FLVS. The classes aren’t too complex but can be a burden. I like the fact that you complete the courses in your own time but if you aren’t motivated, you can get distracted. The teachers keep in touch atleast once a month and are there if you need help. I plan on taking more courses online but only so that I can get ahead or take classes that aren’t offered at my school. I think that taking the actual class at school is better compared to online because you’ll get more attention and you can be helped directly from a teacher or even a peer. Where as online, its only you and yes, the teachers are there to explain but, sometimes talking on the phone or emailing isn’t the most efficient way to learn. For me, the courses weren’t too much of a stress during school because you get to choose your own plan and rate you complete the course. I haven’t taken any AP courses on FLVS but I do plan on it. I have friends that have and they have gotten 5s on their exams but they also said that taking an AP course online isn’t worth it unless you get an A.
I think you should let your DD try it out and then if she doesnt like it or cant handle it, she can drop out within 28 days without penalty.
