Hi. I need some help choosing between Suny Oswego or RIT. At Suny Oswego I would be going for geology and at RIT I would be going for environmental sustainability, health, and safety. I’ve been accepted to both. At Oswego I would need to take out 7500 in loans a year ,and at RIT I got 40000 in aid (including loans). Which college should I choose? I like both of them ,and am happy to go to either. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Also at oswego I would be living on campus and I would be commuting to RIT.
Pls bump
It’s always better to live in the dorms freshman year for a million reasons. You will only be 18 and a college student once in your life so if you want the full experience then go to Oswego. I know a couple of people who went there years ago and are very successful now in business. Disregard what I just wrote if you would be happy living at home.
Thank you for the reply. Right now it’s a little bit cheaper to go to rit ,and I would be getting an apartment with my sister close to campus. I like both ideas. Oswegos dorms look very nice ,but I think living with my sister would be fun. Anybody else? Opinions?

Anybody else?
Does anybody know which major is best?
If RIT will be cheaper and you will have less in loans then I would go with RIT. I’m assuming you’ve been to both? I’ve toured the sustainability building at RIT (with the big plant wall) and thought it was a fantastic place.
Thank you! I was wrong about the price. Rit will be 1000 dollars more than oswego. I really like both and am having a hard time deciding. I always wanted to go to Rit ,but I never thought i’d be able to afford it. So i settled for oswego ,but now that i’ve looked into it more ,i really love oswego. I like both. Anymore help?
So is Oswego 1000 less taking into account dorm/meal plan? Because that seems like a good deal. If you love Oswego and it’s cheaper (especially with room and board) and as long as the major works for your career path, then go with that. I have a relative there now who is very happy at Oswego.
If you think the major at RIT works better for your future career path, then it’s fairly close in price and you could probably swing it. Keep in mind that your living expenses might be higher than you realize. Don’t forget gas and vehicle upkeep when figuring out your budget.
Can you indicate your parents’ budget and net price at both?
*net price = (tuition+room+board+fees) - (grants+scholarships)
Parents budget is zero. Oswego: 7500 Rit: 8500ish
Both are doable: if you work this summer(3K possible, or start working part-time now?), you have the federal loans for RIT, and just the subsidized part for Oswego.
Can you go and spend a day there, sit in on two classes (Freshman English + one in your major), eat in the cafeteria (not just for the food, bu also to see if students are friendly and social), read the paper to see what concerns the students and whether they handle disagreements with enough sophistication/maturity and respect, visit the library and labs, walk around campus looking at everything, try to imagine yourself there…
Because dorming is such an important growth experience, I’d be leaning toward Oswego if I were you, but RIT is excellent so it’s worth revisiting.
Thank you. I went to college and careers camp at Rit this past summer so, I’ve talked to profs and have seen labs and classes. I got to stay in the dorms and eat at gracies. A lot of my friends are going to Rit. Im also hopefully getting a job next week. Do you know which major is better?
Also my sister is going to be a senior there.
A lot of people said I should go to Rit, but I think oswego would better accommodate me. Is Rit a better school? If I lived off campus would I lose the “college experience”?
Which is better is very subjective. I think Oswego has more of a range of majors in case you change your mind. RIT’s coop program is a plus in that side. Probably you could find equal positives and negatives for each. What it really comes down to is which place you really want to be. What anyone else says is the better choice, whether here or IRL doesn’t matter because the only person who will be living the choice is you. Neither is a bad option.
Spend an overnight at each, now, as an admitted student. Attend a class in your major and in Freshman English. Eat in the cafeteria (not just for the food, but see if students are social, friendly…) Visit the library, the labs.
You can’t make your decision based on what others (who likely haven’t attended either, and certainly not both) think.
