Road Conditions

OK not academy related but oldest d on way to Newark to catch plane for mission trip. Travel is up 81 from Nashville to 76 Newark. Has to be there by tomorrow evening. Does anyone know what the interstates are like?

Yeah I know crazy kids I would have waited an extra day or two and fly.

My son and his friends just traveled from the Great Smoky Mountains to Harrisonburg, VA (spending the night there) and said that it was snowing but okay. I know that the roads to the north and west of us are bit trickier. There were spin outs on 270 north through Maryland and the weather in New York, New Jersey and PA is going to be worse than it is here in the DC area. This is all supposed to end by tomorrow morning for us, so if he should be ok by the time he gets to Newark.

I traveled home from work Northbound on 95 between DC & Baltimore and travel was getting tricky after 6:00. I live northwest of Baltimore near MD/PA line and it is snowing on top of icy roads and a trip to my grocery store just now was worse than expected. Counties further west of me which include 81 ( Frederick and Washington) are reporting a tough commute and accidents.
:-( I hope they are safe

Many thanks to you all. I think they plan on spending the night in Roanoke and trying to get to Newark tomorrow to catch a 7pm flight. Hopefully the main roads will be passable by then. (fingers crossed and many prayers)

I would double check with the airline that their flight has not been cancelled. All the airlines with service in the NE were cancelling flights in anticipation of the storm. Check the airline website and call their 800 number before they drive all the way to Newark and possibly find no airplane to catch.

I was out on the roads in the Newark area last night. It took me 2 hours to travel what would have taken less than 1.

Utter mess.

Thanks for the updates. Any news Saturday morning on roads near Newark? D should be drving in around 3pm for 7pm flight. Of course she needs to be there 2 hours early for international fight.

Snow Snow go away...

The PA turnpike (I-76) is in good shape today. Don't know why she would take that to Newark though. I-81 goes right into I-78 after harrisburg and goes all the way to Newark - thru Allentown. That road is in good shape this am -- they worked all night on it and the snow was over by 4 am. It is a nasty road in the best of times so they should travel carefully. Lots of contruction and truck traffic.
Hope they are on the way safely.

Did they make it out of Roanoke?? I live in Roanoke and our flight schedule gets cancelled with a drop of fog!

I was able to rest easier with all the great input...

They left TN Friday around three drove halfway then onto Newark on Saturday getting to the airport around 3. D said roads were clear. She did laugh about standing in line at the airport for almost as long as it took them to drive..ha. For once I was relieved she was waiting in the airport. Off to England only one hour later than schedule.

Ok I am ready for spring now...
