Can the Robert C. Byrd scholarships be used in any college? Cause you have to fill in a college and I don't know which one I'm going to yet...

good question. im applying for it as well.

I believe it has to be a four year college. Depending upon the state, they each handle the processing of the award differently. In VA, the education dept. sends out a form for son's university to fill out, they send it back to VA and then VA sends the money directly to his school. In VA, it was the easiest scholarship to apply for, no essays required just transcript, ACT/SAT scores and recommendations.

All 4 yr colleges for sure, I don't know about 2yr. My D has the Byrd and she transferred her soph year, the scholarship followed her to her new school, you just have to make sure you notify them where to send the money.

Does the college have to be in-state?

Again, as MTNest said, states can administer the Byrd in different ways. In NY, the college does not have to be in-state.

Agreed. My daughter received the scholarship in Texas and attends college in Minnesota.

Same here. Son is at Pittsburgh but we are VA residents. As long as it was a four year college, it was OK.
