^you did not have to apply separately. some choose to send in supplementary essays, but everyone in the applicant pool was considered eligible.

how did the interview go for you all? they only called 123 between both Duke and Chapel Hill. 80 are likely to be invited for campus interview for a final selection of about 50. good luck to all.

itsme123, how did you get those numbers? I was under the impression that they interview 150, choose 100 for finalist weekend, and then offer the scholarship to 40 total? Your numbers give us better odds. :) Thanks!

My interview went pretty well, I think. My interviewer was really nice! She was a recent Duke Robertson grad; I'm a UNC applicant. Just FYI: she said that we would find out finalist status either Monday or Tuesday, and that 2/3-3/4 of semifinalists would advance to the finalist weekend. Good luck to everyone!

^^Stargirl, itsme123 has it mostly right. For a short time on the Robertson site they had it posted that they were conducting 123 phone interviews, with the intention of bringing 80 candidates to campus for finalists weekend. So the 2/3 estimate is just short of right on.

Unfortunately, though, itsme123 is a bit too optimistic about final numbers - even now the Robertson website specifies its intent to select 36 Robertson Scholars - 18 for Duke and 18 for UNC. If you factor in that one or more is slotted for New Zealand, the number shrinks a bit.

The Robertson site says the results of the phone interviews will be out on Friday (3/6) so either your recent Duke Robertson grad interview has inside information or bad information! It would be nice if it was accurate, it would be nice to know sooner.

It seems that in the past they have found out on Monday or Tuesday. I would imagine that they would like to allow you to plan your schedules. However- bad weather may delay them this year.

I assume they offer more than 36, given that an (admittedly small) number will decline the scholarship? In the past I know they offered 20 for each school.

my numbers came of the website as well as phone conversation.

this file has info on 2012 scholars. offers were made to 53 last year with an expected yield of 38.

Wow, good points. I had overlooked the need to plan for yield. Admitting 50 or so to yield 36 or 38 makes sense. Thanks for clarifying. It's hard to imagine going through the application, essays, phone interview, 3 days in NC, getting the offer and turning it down, but I understand a good number do so each year.

Just got my finalist email!!

Thanks for that link, itsms123.

I did as well!

i'm in as well. see you later this month. wow!

Was the phone interview a big part of the selection process? Mine was not that great, and I was not selected as a finalist.

I've requested to join the facebook group, but I haven't become a member yet. I'm not sure if it's because my facebook isn't working or if they just haven't accepted people into it yet. Has anyone been able to join?

I was able to join; I think it's a group setting because I had to wait for them to approve me. :)

Just wondering, what did they ask during the interviews?

@burtsbees I’ve been wondering the same thing for a week or so now, alternating between twiddling my fingers and memorizing my resume just to feel like I’m preparing myself in some way

sorry guys, just a point of clarification- how do some of you already have finalist invitations? one of my friends was chosen as a semifinalist but i know that he only had his phone interview today…

may i ask what the robertson scholarship is? is it for international students mainly? i’m asking because i was contacted for the AB one, and i thought that all others were for north carolina residents…thanks

@HYPS… Check the dates =) Those are from last year’s competition. We’re all still waiting with bated breath for 2010 finalist emails

haha flying phoenix, thanks for pointing out my stupidity ;)
