Going to be applying to be a Robertson scholar next year, I’ve been thinking about Duke since 10th grade lol
I just emailed my admissions officer that I was a Robertson semifinalist and she said that she will make sure to tell the admissions committee. Does that mean they didn’t make their admissions decisions yet? Kinda weird to be a semifinalist and get rejected for admission…

The Committee is composed of VERY senior Duke staff and faculty. Do you believe they laborious review approximately 33,000 files annually? Of course they don’t; rather, they establish broad guidelines – which are executed by admissions staffers – and individually review selected files. I rather suspect your admissions dossier was so strong that it rapidly entered the “accepted pile” AND started you down the Robertson track. Ask yourself how likely is it that very accomplished, very busy people would establish a system that allowed their time to be squandered interviewing individuals, who were subsequently denied admissions? Obviously, you’re bright, with fine accomplishments and great potential, however, you’re also anxious. I fully understand that, but use that excellent cognitive ability and relax a little bit . . . you have earned it.
P. S.: I’ll wager that the Admissions Officer you e-mailed was chuckling when s/he composed your reply.
Ha thanks! That helps a lot! I was really confused. My stats aren’t the best but I guess I’m really “pointy” in the community service/leadership area as the CEO of two nonprofits which is helpful for the Robertson Scholarship.
