Rochester Institute of Technology or SUNY Bing (Computer Science)

Just got accepted to RIT... I am wondering if its computer science is better than SUNY Bing's. Does anyone know? Is RIT a better school compared to SUNY Bing?

I personally will favor RIT, but money is a serious issue.

So if money is not an issue, RIT is better? why?

I know a CS major who transfered from RIT to Binghamton and is much happier in Binghamton. I suggest visiting both schools and deciding if you think RIT is worth the extra money. You should also talk to Eileen Head while you’re at Binghamton. [Professor Head | Home](Professor Head | Home)

I just visited Binghamton the other day… It is unlikely for me to go again because I am from Mississippi, and I don’t get any other major holidays after spring break… Next I will visit Binghamton will probably be the orientation in June if I decide to attend Binghamton University. So is RIT a lot different compared to Binghamton?

I haven’t visited RIT, but by nature it is completely different. The main difference is the people. In Binghamton you’re surrounded by all sorts of people, while in RIT you’re mainly surrounded by computer geeks (I don’t mean that in a bad way).

Computer geeks > all.

That’s all you need to decide where to go.

I’m a computer geek myself, but what I meant by that post is that he might not want to go to a school where everyone is talking tech 24/7. I’d rather be surrounded by all kinds of people.

Wow… computer geeks… that sounds really exciting… I love computer geeks… but I think being surrounded by all kinds of people may bring a more complete college experience. However, the campus itself and students are not my main concerns. I just want a good school with awesome academics and networking. So I can have a better future with my degree. Is RIT’s computer science better than Binghamton’s? I am thinking about double majoring in applied mathematics. Does Binghamton have a better math department?

waichip1991… what did you decide and why?..S is starting to look at schools and thought the computer science program seemed great on paper at RIT (a lot of options).
Thanks for any insight you can share? Also what were your top picks in NE for CS?

I’d probably choose Binghamton.

Thanks…I’ll have him look into Binghamton…but what are your thoughts??
