Hi! I am making this forum to seek if anyone has been accepted to the HEOP program at RIT or if anyone is in the program or has graduated from it. Even if your not in HEOP but you do attend RIT or know of it, what would you say about the school? How is the academic, social life, etc. please anyone feel free to comment! ALSO am really interested if anyone can tell me about their COMMUNICATIONS program. I want to go into Public Relations.
Hi!
I am a current RIT student finishing up my sophomore year. While I can’t speak for the communications department as a whole, I have taken a class on business communication in it. The professor was really sweet and helpful. I have heard positive things about her other COMM classes too.
I can, however, answer any questions you have about social life and general academics.
Social life is perfectly great, so long as you aren’t averse to people. We have tons of clubs, special interest housing, a friendly Greek community, and people get to know each other in classes. I see various friends every single day. I am a member of 3 clubs, am involved in my major, and have gotten to know people all over! I am also considering rushing a sorority in the fall. I mention that because it can be hard being a girl in a computing major since there are so few of us. If you are more “girly” like me, it can be hard to find others who want to do girly things with you. We are definitely a nerdier school, but there are people of all types all over!
Academics are challenging. People pick on the liberal arts students a little as a joke because computing and engineering students tend to be pretty weighed down with school and want to feel better about themselves. I don’t know if that actually has truth behind it or not. I am hopefully keeping my >3.9 GPA where it is by the end of this semester, so being social and handling a tough school load is definitely doable! That said, college is an adjustment. It’s not high school, you can’t fly by the seat of your pants. We are academically rigorous. Expect that.
