did they send out REMS interviews all on the same day?

I think so man. But call them to make sure.

I'm pretty sure they send them all out at once.

I'm a junior and am really interested in this program. For those of you who got an interview, what are your stats and your ECs, etc? Also, does REMS place more emphasis on your SATs/GPA or ECs?

my opinion is that REMS looks alot for passion in the medical field, and a high school courseload that is rigorous enough to suggest that you are a very good, hard working student (AP's, honors, etc).

SAT, I think is just one element in the picture. Commitment to medicine as seen through your EC's and how intelligently you answer the questions will make or break you.

I heard that they ask alot of questions based on current events during the interview. Is that true?

REJECTED from Rochester letter came today! Oh well, I should have expected the same when I wrote "Rochester University" and "we should stop thinking about ethics" on my essays, lol. It kinda sucks because my friend got an interview and I didn't. Anyway, I had my Albany med interview today and IT WAS AWESOME! I really think I did a great job, and it was really laid back and casual. Nothing hard and nothing to really prepare for for me. But it really depends on who you get, because a couple of the prospectives got some tough ethics questions. So it's all good in the end!

So those who already got their letters earlier were accepted and those getting them now are rejected?

They already mailed ALL of the 60 interview letters. If you didn't get your good news by now, the rejection letter is in the mail. What I found funny is that they also include a story about some random guy that got rejected from REMS, still went to Rochester undergrad, and now goes to Rochester Medical School. LOL, anyway, I'm sure you'll get in somewhere else man!

hey guys. I got my rejection letter from Rochester yesterday. And i got that letter about that guy who still succeeded in the university and blah blah. But yea. tear tear. No big deal though. I got 3 rejections so far. and 4 interviews. so my odds are not so bad right? well good luck to all.

I think those questions matter a lot. I think that's the reason I was rejected.

Wow...just found this thread. I was sad because I posted about REMS in the Rochester thread and I thought no one else applied for it...but now it's great to see all of you! I managed (somehow) to get an interview as well, so I guess I'll be seeing all of you March 17th!

Awesome! =D

to all of you who got an interview: would you mind briefly describing your stats/ECs, particularly ones about medicine? thanks

my stats are on P R S T A T S under slipstream99. To expand a little bit more on the ECs about medicine, I initiated the shadowing and I followed a orthopedic surgeon, a family practitioner, an urgent care physician, and a neurologist over my 10th and 11th grade summers. I also volunteered at the hospital in the SICU for a while, and I was selected for an awesome (and free :)) week-long medical camp.

For the others going to the interview, what time are you guys getting to the airport? Also, what are we supposed to wear to the formal dinner? A jacket and tie? or is it a tux sort of formal? I really don't want to have to go rent a tux, so I'm hoping the former will work!

thats awesome slipstream

i'm trying to initiate shadowing too and activities for the medical club i started. Did you just call local doctors? or did you have connections? I'm trying to find some right now, so do you have any tips? Thanks. And also, do you mind telling me the name of the medical camp? Thanks alot!

ronlivs, that's cool that you started a medical club! what do you do in there?

for the shadowing, i just looked up various doctors on some insurance website (I forget which one it is now) and it told me lots of information about them, such as the year they graduated and where they went to college, etc. I picked 7 and sent them letters telling a little about myself and how I would like to shadow them. Surprisingly, all but one contacted me and said they would be happy to have me. It was an awesome experience to see what "the real life" is like and to talk to them about the whole process of becoming an MD.

The medical camp I went to was Central Florida Area Health Education Center. It is sponsored by Nova Southeastern Univ. and we stayed at Rollins College. We got to learn a ton of stuff about all the different opportunities in the medical field but there was also a ton of social activities that we got to do. It was one of the most fun weeks of my life. Staying in the dorms at Rollins and not having any parents around, it was a great taste of what college would be like (without all the hard studying, of course :))

I'm getting to the airport around 10:30am, I believe - don't know what the guys would have to wear to the dinner, but I'm wearing a dress! =P

A question for everybody who RSVPed to REMS weekend: If you emailed them to tell them you could come, did you get an email back?? I'm getting nervous that perhaps they never received mine...

i emailed saying i'd go but didn't get any response so i called. i would recommend calling just to be sure. (could you ask about the "formal dinner" while you're at it? please?)
