Rocky Mountain College

We thought we had reached the stage in the college search where we could start to shave down the list. Then in the mail comes admissions info from Rocky Mountain College in Billings Montana. My D is a horse loving science lover who wants very much to learn to fly. In addition to the biology major and pre vet counseling she wants, it offers a full range of Equestrian Studies majors, Aeronautical Science and Aviation Management.

Program wise it looks good and we know it is tiny but does anyone know anything about this school?

800 students, a third leave before their sophomore year, and less than half graduate in six years. One of the benefits of small size is usually cohesiveness, but that doesn't seem to be the case there.

Well I live in Billings and I see some of the local students go to Rocky.

The aviation program is very well regarded and I know two kids who graduated from there and did quite well. I cannot speak to the other programs but the aviation is top notch. Expensive though.

Rocky has quite a few non-traditional students who are working in Billings and so the 6 year graduation numbers do not surprise me.

Thanks both of you! gadad, where do you find those statistics? They weren't reported on collegeboard. They certainly take the shine off.

Arlo Guthrie's "alma mater" if I'm not mistaken. I think he spent a few months here before dumping the Thanksgiving refuse in that Berkshire ravine. The rest is history.
