Rolling Decisions are being released!

Hi everyone! I applied to pretty much all my schools fairly early in September, but I just applied to Ohio State around last week. I hope it doesn’t hurt my chances. I noticed that it said if I am a freshman, I won’t have notice of acceptance until at least December? I knew they were rolling, but have others heard earlier than December as an incoming freshman? Thanks! :)

^Yeah, I’m from PA and I had all my stuff in by early October and I just found out I was admitted yesterday (I’d be an incoming freshman). I feel like you’ll hear from them within a month, but it’s hard to say since now they’re getting a denser load of applications which means it’ll be a slower process to sift through the applicants.

Have you heard from your other schools yet?

that sounds good, i hope i hear within a month too! but i have heard from two, elizabethtown and colorado state and that i was accepted…so i’m hoping i’ll hear more soon! thanks! :)

Stilll nothing for me and I had everything done by Oct. 4 it says. I had a 31 on the ACT but my GPA is a 2.99 UW. I’m getting worried haha

im worried too. Mine still says “Evaluation” and it says I applied Sept 12. I had a 28 and a 3.3. Though I am a first generation college student and I am a first generation Hispanic American. I don’t know if that stuff will help me or not, because I know my GPA is low.

Hey guys - I got the acceptance letter in the mail today.
it made me very happy.
i’m pretty sure i’ll mail my deposit as soon as word comes from honors.
go bucks!

Just got word that I was accepted! That was really fast, as I applied on Nov 1st and all my documents came in on Nov 8th… also am a transfer student. Can’t wait to start attending OSU next winter quarter. Go Bucks!!

My son got his acceptance letter from OSU yesterday…a day and a month after completing the online registration.
Question: when does the Honors ‘invite’ come out? He got a 32 on his ACT, three '5’s on AP tests, and a GPA of 3.95…however, his school does not give out an accurate rank as they are just beginning to institute an ‘honors’ program for this year’s incoming freshmen. As it now stands, his GPA/class rank really doesn’t reflect the rigorous college prep curriculum he took. He’s in the top 12%, but would easily be in the top 5-8% once those with a less demanding curriculum are factored out. OSU states Honors are for those with ACT >30 and top 10%. We are getting conflicting info whether he really qualifies. Should he go ahead and apply for Scholars?

BearBuck,

My daughter is applying to OSU (still only needs to finish her essay) and her school does not rank. We were at a dinner last week that was hosted by the admissions counselor for our state and she said not to worry if your school does not rank. They figure something out based on ACT/SAT and on GPA. I’m not sure if anything else goes into it or not. I would hold off and wait to see if he is offered honors.

Also, schools that say they don’t rank actually kind of do but don’t publicize it if that makes sense. My daughter knows what her rank would be IF our school were to rank and the students do have the option to release the ranking if they choose to. She is at a highly competitive school and I believe that is why they don’t officially rank. Does your son have the ability to release his rank to OSU? If he doesn’t get into the honors program, maybe he could have the ranking released if it would help him.

i too am anxiously awaiting for my decision so i went to talk to my counselor. i applied back in september but my things werent sent until mid october. first off she said that they say they arent even giving out decisions until dec 1 which is clearly not true. when i said i knew people who got in, pretty much all who will be in honors, she said this is sometimes just how rolling works and that colleges accept “slamdunks” first then ya know the other people. it just is frusterating!

Honors invites are mailed two weeks after acceptance, I believe.

I got my acceptance letter today in the mail! When do the maximus scholarship qualification letter come out?

Thanks for the info. If we don’t hear from Honors in another week, we’ll start the paperwork for Scholars (something to do over the T’giving break…he’ll be happy). I remember seeing something about a Dec 1 deadline for some aspect of it. Have to go back and check.

Good luck to all!

The December 1 deadline is new this year.

I’d get it in early. Some programs are more competitive (numbers applying) than others. I’ve heard that Business and Engineering Scholars are really competitive. I don’t know too much about the Honors program, but it seems that Scholars is more of a community. It really helps the OSU transition and makes OSU seem smaller than a 50,000 plus school.

The priority scheduling is huge. I’ve noticed that the many classes are closed out for some of the basic requirements needed for next quarter. An example is CSE 200 (a required computer science course) has almost 160 kids on the waiting list. Business Scholars get to schedule before other freshman students (except Honors, athletes, etc.). Plus you have a better selection of getting prime time/building slots.

My son had a February 1 deadline last year. He is in Business Scholars. Great program. He resisted, but loves his dorm (not NERDS as he feared), location and individual room bathroom at Blackburn.

Another thought—even if you are waiting for an Honors invite, I’d send in a Scholars application if you see a program that you like. You can always decline scholars if you get the Honors invite in December or January.

I recieved my honors invite in the mail yesterday. Now, I have to wait for the PSU Schreyers honors college acceptances to come out in March. Yuck. I will be accepting a college right on the May 1st deadline.

Got an honors invite, too!

I got my letter of admission in the mail yesterday! I applied November 8th I believe.

Just wondering… Are all of you guys in state? Cause i applied oct 6th OOS and have not heard back from them yet, kinda nervous

I got accepted OOS. Just waiting on honors now.
