well, I had a 2270 sat score; but they probably weighted other things like essays and financial need more heavily than test scores.

Hi =]. I have also applied to the Ron Brown scholarship. I applied back in November, but I haven't heard anything back yet, so maybe I didnt make semi finalist status. Congrats to everyone who has been accepted though!

yeaa, I guess. Darn! I wish I was a semifinalist...ugh.! Did any of you guys apply for the gates millenium?

Well..... I guees I am giving up. Congrats to everyon who made it. Good luck.

well...now im gunna be broke after college ends. or during. or both. =)

i heard they will make decisions tomorrow!!!

:S

i don’t know when exactly will they tell us. i hope they don’t try to call me; i have a broke phone :(

whoa really?..tomorrow!!!

that’s great! But I hope they don’t call tomorrow b/c I’ll be out practically all day.

Where did you hear that?

You might want to check your letter of notification becoming a semi-finalist. Last year the letter my D received stated that the 20 finalists would be notified via phone no later than … X date. Maybe it is stated on this years as well and you could have possibly overlooked it? Good luck all.

Well, on the letter it said no later than the 27th, so I thought he might have heard some thing that I hadn’t.

Mr. Michael Mallory contacted me by phone Sunday night to ask more questions and to tell me about where the Ron Brown Scholarship Program stands. He stated that out of 34 (yes 34, not 33) semifinalist, only 14 (yes 14, not 20) will be finalist for obvious reasons (the economy of course, if it wasn’t). And he said they will be finished with decisions TONIGHT and would let us know most likely Thursday.

raynebow757, was you contacted like I was or no?

I just got a call from Mr. Michael Mallory (first call I’ve gotten from them) saying that I was one of the 14 going to finalist weekend. They’re going to pick 10 out of the 14 after interviews.

^Congrats!.. did he do a mini interview over the phone?

darn :(

i have given up hope. congrats raynebow 757 though :)

lol, yea me too.

It’s odd that Ms. Evans emailed me yesterday and told me to send a pic immediately…ah well.

Wow, congrats raynebow757! To the other semi’s, they sent DD as a gift for making the semi’s last year a copy of the book that is for sale on the website, “I Have Risen”, essay’s by African American Youth. Although it was not the coveted $40,000, it is a highly inspirational book, and I reccommend it to everyone.

Raynebow757, they flew 20 to DC last year and gave the scholarship to all 20. Hopefully they will give it to all 14 this year. Have they told you what the # of applicants was for this year? I know the # for last year was stated on a letter DD received along with the book, but I don’t remember if it was disclosed beforehand. Again, good luck!!!

the # of applicants was 10,400.

^^^^^^^

WOW, last year was only a little over 5600. What a huge jump in #'s!

Thanks, GA2012MOM. They just say that they’re were over 10,000 in the email I received. Michael Mallory said that in the past everyone invited to Selection Weekend received the award, but this year they can only pick 10 out of the 14 invited. An email I just received says they “anticipate” giving the scholarship to only 10, so it could just be a funding issue that might be resolved before Selection Weekend. I couldn’t see them inviting 14 and then rejecting 4, but I guess I’ll find out.

Congrats to raynebow757 and everyone else who is going to the finalist weekend! I couldn’t really see them inviting 14 people and only giving the scholarship to 10 either, that would be a let down kinda.
