room key cards

i looked all over the housing website, but i couldn't find any info on them. i know we print our unloading permits online and what not, but when do we get our room key cards?

do we like sign-in when we first get there and then get it?

Yes
10c

thanks.

and there is a chance that i might arrive around 4-4:30 perhaps on my move-in date. i know they say that they prohibit anyone to move-in during rush hour times (before 9am and between 4-6pm), but will they really not let you move-in?

I think someone already answered this questions, but I can' remember. I think in our m-card booklet from orientation, it said the m-card is your room key. But then I heard you get an extra hotel style key and you don't use your m-card. Could someone fill me in on what they actually are doing. It would be cool if it was all in one on the m-card so I didn't have to worry about losing two cards...or even on both, an extra key would be nice.

Yes, your M-Card also functions as your room key.

"Yes, your M-Card also functions as your room key."

?

what? i don't think so.
this can't be true since the plastic id card holder has 2 slots for 2 cards. and i asked current students and said you get a separte room card key.

azure, are you a current student or an incoming freshman?

Upon moving in, you are given a white card (similar to hotels) that gets you access to your room. Typically, the default number you press on your room's keypad is the last four digits of your SSN (NOT your UMID!). There is a machine that can change it to whatever you desire.

Your MCard allows you access to meals, Entree Plus, and buildings throughout campus. You would need your MCard to get into your dorm building, but your white card to get into your dorm room.

Where do you get this lanyard with the slots for your MCard/Room Key? Orientation? Are they not giving it out at international orientation? :(

oh ok. yeah, I'm an incoming student. And yes, they give it to you at Orientation.

At least for South Quad, I think the default 4 digit passcode for everybody is 1817. You're advised to get that changed with the front desk at some point to something more secure.

Is that new this year?

Last year it was last 4 digits of SSN by default. I'm probably going to switch my code to something easier to type in.

1-2-3-4 ...

wouldn't 1-1-1-1 be easier? haha

Yeah, that's wierd they switched everyone to the same number, because I'm sure most people will be too lazy to change it, haha.

How did you already get to move in? I have a few days left. I guess I should start getting my stuff together to push down the block.

1817 was the year the university was founded.

Move in makers, it's the way to go.

1817 was just the defult for early move ins.

international orientation . . .
