room keys

Hello, I have a son already at Yale participating in the FOOT program. I plan to fly and meet him there on Thursday. I remember reading somewhere that I can pick up his room key and move his stuff in without him because they may not return to campus until after 2:00 pm. So I was wondering if someone can pipe in and tell me where I can pick up his key. His residential college is Trumbull. Any help on this subject is greatly appreciated.

"a newbie"

You can get the keys from Dwight Hall until 5 pm, after that you’ll have to go to the Law School’s security desk.

s0cc3r - I am on my way home from dropping my son off for FOOT…it looked like they were having a great time. So glad that he is doing this program…all the kids looked so happy and comfortable. Everyone was so welcoming! Confirms for me that he made the right choice :)

my2sunz-Thanks for the assurance! I know my son called me briefly and mentioned he is really having a great time. Wouldn’t it be funny if they were both in the same group!
Thanks cprr12 for the info!

My son did FOOT last year and loved it. I think it’s a racket, though, because we ended up moving (and even unpacking) all his stuff before the FOOT groups arrived.

I will note that the Trumbull kids there to help you carry in your stuff were particularly enthusiastic.

I had to chuckle, Hunt, at your comment about it being “a racket”. DS did FOOT last year. We rose early and got his room key, gathered boxes and suitcases, carried it all in (with some help of course!), cleaned the room a bit (not too dirty really) and unpacked just about everything - before DS arrived on campus! I didn’t really mind though, as it gave me a chance to be in his new home for a bit and to get some of my emotions out of the way before his arrival. He was riding so high after FOOT - so invigorated and eager - he didn’t need our tears to bring him down. He of course “decorated” as he wanted, but was appreciative of all the unpacking we had done.

Socc3r - I thought Yale did a great job with the send-off weekend. For us, it all seemed very well organized and welcoming. I loved the pomp and circumstance of the Freshman Assembly, and the advice from the information session with the Dean and faculty. And they had good food out in Old Campus during move-in. It is a festive atmosphere, yet respectful of what most parents are going through.

This year DS is a co-leader of a FOOT group in the Berkshires!
